Houzz Contributor. Hi there! I live in a 1940s cottage in Atlanta that I'll describe as "collected."
I got into design via Landscape Architecture, which I studied at the University of Virginia.

Parents, it’s that time of year again. School is back in full swing, and kids are trying to find the best spot to figure out algebra problems, work on that project for the science fair, get their reading done and study for tests. Where do your kids do their work? What are the most important things about the space?
Do you share a workstation with your kids? Do they prefer to have you nearby for help, or do they prefer solitude? Or do your kids share a space? If so, how do they keep all of their things straight?

What kind of lighting do you find is best for your kids at their homework station? Have you found clever ways to integrate charging stations for a laptop or other devices they may need to complete their work?
If your child is at an age when lots of reading is required, where is his or her favorite space to get through A Tale of Two Cities?
Is there a designated room in your home for studying, or is it a station in your child’s room or in a common space?

My kids (twin girls, 5th grade) both have desks in their rooms -- freestanding rather than built-ins, to give them freedom to rearrange -- but they use them mostly for storage. One kid does her homework in bed because it's comfy; the other does hers at the dining room table because she wants room to spread out. It will be interesting to see how this evolves as they age... I seem to remember doing most of my high school homework on the floor of my room.
