Update on my favorite subject - ME

Hi I've been posting for years. I'm the woman with kidney failure who got a successful (still) kidney transplant a while ago. I'm the caregiver for my husband with MS. My mother died in January 2011 and my brother shot himself to death late last year. Between a reverse mortgage my late Mom took out and some somewhat dishonest behavior by my brother, their is no "inheiritance" from my Mom. Her house now belongs to a Big Bank. Bro had completely stripped the house of furniture., belongings, knicknacks,etc. Well, just to let you know he did leave a few things of my mother's behind. My sisters went to clean the house out and found very little. Some tools and old chemicals (paint,varnish) and odd pieces of wood our late Dad left in the basement . He passed in 1998. A few bookshelves (no books) but tons of family photographs, some organized in scrapbooks, many loose photos, and a few objects that were designated to be mine-a baby plate with my name and birthday, my bronzed baby shoes, the bride and groom cake topper from my parents wedding in 1946, and a couple of diaries my Mom had kept as a teenager and later as young mother. My sister is keeping them safe for me at her house and I'll be picking them up later this year. We heard recently that the Big Bank listed the house for sale and it went in two weeks. Closing is scheduled for May 15. I was able to find the now-closed listing on a real estate website . It included loads of photos, many interior shots. I've been looking at them over the last few days, the place looks pretty good. Oh there's a little bit of furniture to make it look "homey" and some logs stacked by the fireplace. Obviously professionally "staged". But it was good to hear the new buyers are a couple with a 2 year old son. I'm so happy there will be a family in my house! And with three people in a 4 bedroom house, I'm sure they'll have more kids. Just wanted to bring anyone who might be interested up to date. On the downside, DH continues to struggle with MS. He's bedridden but I have help 5 afternoons a week. Things are not horrible with me.Thanks for reading!

Sorry to hear of such trials and tribulations. Just one thing, if the house sells for more than the balance on the reverse, have checked into who gets the proceeds? You would need a copy of the hud from the closing and the reverse mortgage paperwork to know how this was all set up.

No idea about the sale and reverse mortgage. I'm 450 miles away .My sisters live in the area of the house and may have more info. I don't know the sales price as yet, that will be a public record after May 15. So I'll be checking then.

Jerry-- I'm a lot like Lucy in that I have a problem-- I hord plants as if they're going out of stock. For me, I've covered my bases. I have decidious, I have evergreen, I have conifers and I have tropical. Some I focus on during the spring, some in the summer, some in the fall and the tropicals get all my "attention" during the winter. Don't forget, if you get decidious, make sure the plants is trained to look beautiful both with and without leaves. As for the flowers plants-- and even one's with fruit-- well, I know if the plant is healthy it shouldn't be a strain on the plant-- but I guess I prefer the plants that are tough, rugged-looking plants-- especially since they live well in the high-altitude, difficult climate of the Rockies. I just bought a juniper the other day... it called to me. LOL

Loved all of the classes but we had the hardest mg test ever and it took one guy a year to complete it. Now he's on the advisory board. Go figure. I think the instructor really had it in for us because a few of us ladies sat in the back row, ate donuts, and cracked jokes. He hates me anyway cause when he asked if a fig was a fruit or a vegy, I said it's a laxative. He handed out prizes for correct or smart alec answers and I got fat free fig newtons - he made sure I knew they were fat free and told me I needed them. Ha ha. One girl cried when she thought we had to finish the test that day and slammed a book down on the hands on id part of the test. Too funny. We made jokes about Hairy Bindweed being Jackie's ex boyfriend and stuff. Also we laughed when the instructor wore a pink tie dye shirt. He has some gawwd awful plaid pants too that we seized the opportunity on laughing at. It was all great fun and we learned soooo much every week. We still can't look at each other and say Agrilus Plennipenis without laughing (that's the Emerald Ash Borer). Great fun, great opportunity to learn, and to teach others!

hi everyone we finaly got some much needed rain and my brugs really needed it i have isabellla and frosty pink blooming they are about five feet tall i really want a red one Trish my husband mailed your box wensday i hope you like it it has been so hot it was hard to send plants i hope they arrive safe today i took my grandson to see monster house for his 7th birthday and found a real good deal at payless shoes 20.00 shoes for 5.oo that was a deal got his hair cut for school and everyone be careful checking emails from wireless phone we have someone stole my name and ordered phone and sent them to Maryland and luckly my network sent me text mess to say my account password had been changed and i called and asked what was going on and some one fauded my account what a bummer i had to put fraud allert on my credit and it feels weird to see how easly they did it well i hope everyone has a nice evening stay cool patty

loves2cook4six- I have the same problem intermittently on both my computers. If you notice, some people have the problem also as they never have caps in the title. I asked about this on the computer forum, which is normally very helpful, and I got some seriously stupid answers trying to explain how to press the shift key. Finally some of the techies took notice and had fun analyzing the situation at least confirming that it is in fact a problem for some. I suggest you clear all your caches & cookies & empty the trash (computer) Log in and log out a few times & restart your computer. Somehow this combination fixed my problem (I think) It drives me crazy when I can't use caps in the title. I think they did say you cannot use all caps in the title. I hope this helps you-I am better at cooking then computers :)

Jannie, you have had a difficult few years and my heart goes out to you. But you have kept a good spirit and were blessed with the new kidney. I know what it is to take care of a DH with MS, as mine also has it (fortunately, he is not yet bedridden)--but you never complain. You are truly an angel, and I pray that God will continue to bless you. Hugs!

It's good that your spirits have stayed up. I'm glad you'll be getting your mom's diaries (priceless) and lots of photos (ditto). Perhaps I can persuade you to preserve the latter by scanning them. This has been an ongoing project of mine for several years (my dad was an avid photographer), and I'm so glad I decided to do it.

Thanks for the update! It sounds like your brother left all the important things. It's nice that you now have the family photos, diaries and some memorabilia. I'd rather have those things than knick-knacks and furniture.

Good to have the update. I'm glad to hear that you are doing well since the Kidney transplant. As someone who is doing diaylsis now its good hear of good news. I'm sorry to hear about you mom's house problems. But happy to hear you will receive some of her things and photos. Good news all around. Now the house will be loved by a young family with a child. Great memories to hold on too. Continued good health to you and your DH.

I'm thankful that you're keeping in good spirits, Jannie, despite the numerous trials and tribultations, piled on one another ... and several of them with long-lasting effects, rather than of the flash-in-the-pan - then-it's-over and we can get on with life kind.

What a great spirit you've nurtured, over the years, to enable you to deal with them, successively, without getting all bent out of shape!

Jannie, thanks for the update. I admire your courage and strength, because as everyone else has said, you have gone through so much and still manage to be upbeat. I am so glad you have the photos....and the diaries. What treasures!

My Mom had an attitude that things generally work out. Guess I got that from her. We were very close in heart if not geographically close her last few years. I still miss her . Sometimes I feel so bad that half my family of six is now gone. But I do have two wonderful daughters and I hope to have many good years with them. The little one is engaged, graduating from college next year, and plans to move to Florida. She promises to have an extra room for me. Older daughter graduates next month, it will be interesting to see how her life unfolds.

Aw Jannie, thanks for keeping us posted and up to date.
You are a pillar of strength, to be sure.

We recently saw the Marigold Hotel movie, and one in it was that everything works out in the end. If it's not working out; it's not the end.

It's hard to hang onto that thought at times, but it stuck in my mind.
