tiny bedrooms: UGH!
Comments (25)We thinking along the same lines as tinycastle. Our secondary bedrooms will be 12 x 12'4 with decent sized walk in closets. Our goal is to have drawers and hanging space in the closets and just bed and nightstands in the bedroom. They do not spend much time in there and we couldn't see spending more square footage in a place that is ample and used predominately for sleeping. There is a small 8 x 10 bonus space outside of their bedrooms that they also can use for lego creations, studying (yeah right), games, etc. jasi-my bedroom growing up was very small - not even sure if it was 10 x 10. I spent all of my time in the common areas too, which honestly weren't very large by today's standards (and it never felt cramped, hmmm). I think the house was 900 sq feet total for a family of 4 and 2 dogs! We are hoping our boys will spend more time in the communal areas also - and we'll have a nice sized basement rec room. I think it really is a personal preference and how you live that dictates....See MoreIs this bedroom set too massive for my bedroom? (pics!)
Comments (51)Believe it or not, decent looking ceiling fans exist. On every design show I've ever seen they're the first things to be thrown out, but I have them in every bedroom. Mmm slight draft at night without the sound of floor fan... I pspent no fewer than 18 weeks looking (off and on) for a "pretty" one to go in my master. I have lived with a 4 poster bed. My experience - unless you have really high ceilings, and I'm talking like 10 ft, and a sizeable room, it will turn your space into... tiny. Once upon a time in a previous life I thought I had a big bedroom until I put a poster bed in there. I like your computer nook. I always wanted a space like that, which I could separate from the rest of the room with some romantic drapery tied back. I might force that idea on my formal dining room. :) beds/headboards coverin ga window do bother me. I don't like anything to cover a window (couch, table, or otherwise) -- but that's just me. And if it came down to a queen bed, or covering that window, sure - the window would get covered! We have single panels on our two bedroom windows, mostly because they're skinny and it looked silly to me to have two panels. If you need to cover the window, something that seems to help (at least when I've seen it done) is to pull the bed away from the wall a foot or so. Then you can go with two panels, and it looks kind of intentional instead of "didn't have space." Something else to keep in mind with blocking windows -- does the sun come directly in such that it would fade your bedding over time?...See MoreHelp design a teeny tiny kitchen in a teeny tiny vacation rental
Comments (241)Jillius, I made the Saturday afternoon "deadline" he wanted. I didn't think I would. But, thanks to you and everyone's incredibly generous help, WE did it! I'm thrilled with the plan! I read through the thread again just now. It is completely blowing my mind to see how the design evolved and changed over the course of a week into what we have now. Everyone played an important part with all their input. I will be forever grateful to all of you. It might take a few years to have it all up and running, but I will keep you all posted on the progress. I will start a new thread whenever he gets the walls and roof on. Laughable, I'm am dead serious, just last night my husband said, "You are going to have to start calling me 'Mr. Rebunky' on your GW." Hysterical you said that. Imgch, thanks. I love your reveal! I'm going to go look at all your eye candy again right now. Aloha!...See MoreBedroom ceiling cave in, clean up advice
Comments (24)I have had a very similar incident occurred to when I was renting. Although a little different, I did benefit from the fact that the rental company was non compliant, so thought I should share. We had a fire breakout in the kitchen in the middle of the night(3am). Although, we woke up in time to move out and call the fire Dept; we lost a bunch of stuff in the kitchen. The rental company, was very uptight on the whole situation and blamed us for everything - although we had reported an issue with one of the electrical burners that would work one day, and not the other(they did nothing for me than 2 weeks). Long story short, when I brought my lawyer friend into the equation; they noticed that there we no fire/smoke alarms installed in the bedroom and many of the ones in the building were non functional. That seriously changed the whole ball game, and we were offered compensation for the stuff we lost in the fire, a week's hotel and food bill and best of all the building manger's arrogance was nowhere to be seen for the next year or so we lived there....See MoreHeather A.
