How is your Dee-Lish working out?

My first year Dee-Lish is impressing me. It is blooming generously and putting on size nicely.

Black spot pressure this year has been very heavy, one of the worst years I can remember, and Dee-Lish defoliated about 25%, unexpected for an ADR winner. I will take into consideration its youth, undeveloped immunity, along with this year's intensity, before I say its ADR award is to be questioned.

How is your Dee-Lish turning out?

Scrawny and tiny, with a few lovely blooms now and then. I don't think mine has gotten about knee height in two or three years, but that may indeed be one of the many differences between zone 5a and zone 5/6. That little bit of extra mildness in the winter seems to be a dividing point for a lot of HTs in particular.

I like the blooms when I get them, and I don't notice disease pressure on such a small plant, it just doesn't make much of a statement for me (yet).

Thanks for your input. I'm sorry your Dee-Lish is not doing anything. I hope mine does not mirror yours.

I plan to winterize mine at least this coming winter in spite of its ADR designation. I am finding ADR for me means mostly black spot resistance, but not sufficient winter hardiness to put on any size. With severe winter dieback on so many ADRs I have tried (except for Earth Angel, which by the way, may turn out to be a once blooming rose, it's repeat is so pitiful....but mine is young and just may need time to mature), I am wondering how much credence I should put on an ADR winning rose.

Really Cynthia, my main rose growing problem is my obsession with fragrance, which is pretty limiting from the standpoint of fragrant roses' notorious serious disease issues, not to mention winter hardiness problems, too. If fragrance was not my reqirement, especially a rose's, no equal from among any other flower, I would grow daylilies or dahlias!

Both of mine survived this very mild winter. There was some dieback on both, but not much. A consistent snow cover would have been better. Both have grown and leafed out and set buds, but too early for blooms. The new growth is distinguishable because it is deep red and shiny. I'll be thrilled if they're as floriferous as last year. I need this deeper pink in my garden. The color is just a little deeper than Leo da Vinci. Moses' recommendations never fail. Mr. Moses, if you're reading here, welcome back. You won't know what to do with yourself, having been in pain for so long. I'm praying for the speediest recovery on record, and the best gardening year so far!

Dee lish or Dolly Parton or mango veranda

I like Dolly, but I just don’t see her in a pot. The plant is not so bushy, and the bloom is enormous, so there is no sense of uniformity, which for is more important for a potted plant...it’ll be this twiggy thing with a few big neon orange spots. She is indeed very fragrant. You won’t have to worry about her getting outsized, she is rather a runt. Many of the HTs I planted the same time as Dolly are now 10x bigger that she is.

In my zone 6b, Dee-Lish, all 4 of them, are growing very well. I like their upward facing blooms with little nodding. An ADR winner as it is, it does get a noticeable, but not debilitating amount of black spot, unlike other pristine ADR winners I grow. However, during the past couple years the Dee-Lish bushes had been pretty black spot free here. This year, black spot pressure was unusually heavy at summer's end. That's when Dee- Lish got hit, not earlier. Mine are tip hardy here....go figure, and max out at 4' by season's end after pruning down to 12" in spring. Moses

Had both Grand Dame and Dee-Lish. Still have Dee-Lish, actually four (4), Dee-Lish bushes, got rid of Grand Dame because of mine being chronically plagued with weak necks, which is its natural trait. In a rainy climate like mine, weak, nodding necks are a serious liability. Soggy blooms quickly rot. A bush that was relatively beautiful yesterday, looks horrible after a downpour, and it takes several days for new blooms to pop, only to be rained upon in turn....and all season long. Your Grand Dame is magnificent. Whatever you are doing, keep it up. Dee-Lish has a very upright growth habit, narrow and tall for me. Necks are pretty strong. The bloom color is pink/coral, very nice. A nice, strong, but odd scent is how I describe its fragrance, almost like an infrequently encountered tropical flowers scent. If you like Grand Dame, and I cannot see why you wouldn't, looking at your spectacular bush, give Pretty Lady Rose a try. PLR is Grand Dames' baby girl! Pretty Lady Rose holds blooms upright, and is quite fragrant and prolific of bloom. The scent is like Grand Game's to me. Moses

My Dee-list is planted in a pot, and is vigorous, bushy, and blooms fairly regularly. Flowers last a day or two in the heat. Fragrance is moderate, fruity. The flower form is nothing exceptional, a loose arrangement of petals like an old HT. The color is rather similar to the HT Tropicana, which in my garden stands out like a sore thumb. The best thing about this rose is its willingness to grow and bloom, which is a valuable thing, but I can't say that this rose makes me terribly happy.

I only had mine a couple of years before it croaked. I wasn't thrilled with it and would say my experience was more like Cynthia's and I'm in zone 6. When it didn't come back last spring I didn't miss it.
