If you have base cabinet drawers...
Comments (13)ditto rosieo. I'm stunned that it took modern civilization this many years to get it right. In other people's homes I see the cabinet doors and imagine them doing it on all fours. I mean rooting around in the dark, clanging pots to get at other pots. I'm only willing to get down so low when I have to look under the lowest drawer. I have an open toekick and no base cabinet floor panel under the lowest drawer, so it's all open space once I pull out the lowest drawer. With large deep drawers, everything is accessible and floating in mid air when you pull the drawer out. Showroom people who look at you like you "have 3 heads" may have a mental model based on non-experience. It tells them one thing and not another. Ask a neutral question like "what has been your experience with kitchens that have large deep drawers in the base cabinets like in all the cabinets or almost all of them." Furthermore, sales training teaches salespeople to do certain things in order to make the buying process move forward. They can get oppositional so that it engages your brain more. They can act as though they know things you don't know in order to make you wonder what they know and assume they know things you don't know....See MoreIf you have a drawer stacks of 3 in your base cabinets.....
Comments (4)Mine are 10, 10 and 3.5 inches. The small is just enough for rolls of tinfoil, cutlery, etc. I like having the clearance of the 10" (drawer fronts are 12") it's deep enough to stack bowls, pots, etc, but aesthetically, it would probably be better to to as susan has with a bigger one on the bottom. Somehow the eye fools you and even though my bottom 2 drawers are the same size, the bottom one looks smaller. If it was a bit bigger it would look better proportionally - if that makes sense at all. Maybe you can see what I mean in a pic....See MoreWould you buy a house if it didn't have a dishwasher?
Comments (59)As long as there was a logical place to put a dishwasher without screwing up the latout of the kitchen I'd be content. I have no interest in a second sink in the bathroom. I could say the same thing. I am going to have a dishwasher one way or another -- I wouldn't mind installing one myself, but I'd expect the price to reflect the not-cheap additional plumbing and the appliance itself. I see two sinks as a negative in the master bathroom. Wasteful, something extra to break, something extra to clean. I wouldn't say I'd refuse to buy a house with repetative sinks ... but it would be a strike against that house....See MoreWhat would you rather have in Master Bathroom...
Comments (53)>>a house needs a tub unless it is in a retirement community and even then, if there is more than one bathroom, it should have a tub>> Hmmmm....maybe, maybe not. I'm 65 and like the majority of my friends, prefer showers. When we remodeled our MBa it has a custom shower and a double vanity, plus a matching 6' tall linen closet. Plus an alcove with another 3-drawer cabinet in that. I'm a firm believer in lots of storage, LOL. My MIL loved baths, hated showers. When she moved to a nearby retirement facility, she had a choice - shower or bath, both with attendant. Eventually she gave up bathing for the walk-in shower, saying it was easier and faster. One reason she moved: she was terrified of falling in the bathroom during her bath, when she lived with us. We thought about putting in one of those walk-in tubs, but she did use them at the senior facility instead before she switched to the shower. It's a reasonable alternative, but forget trying to wash a dog in them [smile]. They're pretty tight-fitting inside, with the built-in seat taking up a lot of interior volume. I can tell you that when I broke my leg at age 54 (I was out gardening and fell on concrete stairs), it was IMPOSSIBLE to lift the cast high enough to step over the (rather short height) tub-shower on the main floor, at first. It was almost 5 weeks before I could do it, wrapping the cast in a plastic bag. That tub is only 16" high at the rim - but it could have been a mile high as far as trying to get into it, when disabled. My vote is double vanity, linen cabinet, shower (3x5 is ideal and I wish we had that). Add in safety bars and a good vent fan, too....See Moremama goose_gw zn6OH
