Have you elver canned something you didn't like?
Comments (29)Oh yes, this is a great thread, LOL. Let's see, I made some completely tasteless corn and black bean salsa, the beans just seemed to absorb everything and it tasted like eating paste or cardboard. Anyway, it was a bad idea. My pickles are always soft, except Linda Lou's sweet pickle chunks. And, as Readinglady pointed out, everyone doesn't like the same things. I don't care for dill or sour pickles at all, but Dad loves 'em, so I make them. One batch, every year. The remainder of my cukes become sweet relish and those sweet pickle chunks that I love. My worst canning experiment wa the mincemeat. Yes, the real stuff with beef and "2 pounds of suet". It was mincemeat like Dad remembered all right and every bite would coat your mouth with that lovely layer of tallow. Ewwww. It was awful and I could feel my arteries slamming shut. I've never made a spaghetti sauce that my girls liked as well as they like Prego, but that's them, LOL. I think the roasted red pepper spread needs some hot peppers, it's too bland without them. I made some really good kumquat chutney but can't figure out how the heck to use it all up, it just doesn't "go" with a lot of things. Then there was the dandelion wine..... Comments (3)I'd like to share my recommendation too:) We bought the Miele Inspira Series dishwasher and I love it. It's incredibly quiet, the dishes come out dry and my silverware looks brand new. Because it has a top rack that slides out specifically for the silverware, I find it has lots of room on the two separate shelves for dishes. The controls can be on the side or located on the inside of the panel (but that option makes it pricier)....See MoreDid you ever enjoy a book you didn't think you would like?
Comments (27)Larry, I have to agree with you about The Far Pavillions. My sister in law kept telling me how wonderful it was and how much I would like it. I'd take it out of the library, look at it and end up taking it back, unread, a few weeks later. She even gave me a paperback copy for my birthday (she was persistant) that sat on my bookshelf for months. Finally, one day I picked it up and started reading it. I couldn't put it down. I read all but the last 3 or 4 chapters in one sitting. I'd have finished it that night except I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer....See MoreWhat big purchases have you made that you found out you didn't need?
Comments (51)Rho, I have seen those really expensive machines, and I know that ,beyond a doubt, there are not enough garments or anything else that I could produce in one lifetime to warrant the price of those machines. Just to buy the thread for the embroidery function can be prohibitive. And, I really don't believe that there is any more pleasure to be gotten from them, either. Also, many times, the machines that offer fewer functions are really the best. I wish that I had, maybe, just bought a new sewing machine instead of a serger. Now I sew with my old mechanical Bernina with a backup of an old Singer 401 from the 50s the was my moms and that I learned to sew on. All I want is old school. So much of modern life suffers from what I call "style over substance, and, the style sucks". So, where does that leave the substance? The form is not pleasing and the function is even worse. Much of it is a lose/lose affair, in my opinion. It has become difficult to find just a well made somethingortheother. So many things come loaded with functions that you never knew you needed or wanted and still don't need or want. It is all about upsellling things that are really of little value....See More- 9 years agolast modified: 9 years agoFlamingO in AR thanked raee_gw zone 5b-6a Ohio
