design-wotcha...thanks for the complement on the fixture. Looking to replace two ceiling lights in the upper hallway and possibly the sconce that I have at a landing of the staircase going up. I'll try to post pictures later today when I get home from work. I'm actually updating the whole house. I'll be stripping and re-staining the staircase and replacing the balusters,changing out the interior doors and trim, replacing tile, updating the kitchen and bathrooms and more. teacats...thanks for the link. Nice fixtures, but it doesn't anything for me. I came across this one. What does everyone think of this?

Thanks, Johnatemp! Perhaps I should mention, there are two pendant lights on the second floor. One can not be seen in the photo. It is to the right of the one you can see. The window in the pic is 6'3" high x 4'3" wide. The one you can't see is about a foot shorter & the same width. So, totally there are 3 flushmounts, 1 down, & two upstairs, & 2 pendant lights in this hall. These all need to coordinate & be the appropriate size. Thanks!

Thank you for the response! Didn't get a notification from Houzz so just saw it. If I did an arch top opening, how would I do the rest of the hallway? I don't want to make it a barrel vault for the entire length of the hallway. Would it look too broken up if the hallway ceiling started flat and then have the arched top opening at the end right before the vestibule? What would the flat ceiling height and top of the arched openings be to work well with the 11' vestibule? The backup design would have been 10' flat ceiling in hallway opening to 11' flat ceiling in the vestibule. It's just too ho hum for me but I'm having a hard time visualizing the superior design.

Thanks for the feedback. We don’t have the budget to work with a lighting designer and we aren’t in the US, but I appreciate the offer! RL - thank you for the mock ups. I like the drum ones and I think I’ve seen something similar at Home Depot. I really wanted a black foyer light but the one I like has been discontinued and it’s only available now in the satin. Everything else I see is either too trendy or too ornate. I’ll keep looking. I can also go darker on the paint colour to get it to pop a little better. It’s a big space with a good amount of natural light so I think it could handle saturated wall colour.
