I'm interested in the the GE Cafe 30" gas range, but can't vent to the outside (so can't have a true pro range) and am therefore thinking about the OTR microwave. But I've read scary things about the handle becoming like a branding iron and the control pad blanking out or stopping working altogether because of stove-top heat. Most of what I've read on this forum and on other sites is dated. Does anyone have this microwave? Should/Could I get the GE Cafe Range but go with another microwave? Any experience/suggestions? Thanks.

Without looking up the codes, my understanding is that if it captures flammable lint, or captures flammable grease, it is supposed to be metal. kas

Grrr. So, nobody's happy right now. The rigid elbows & straight piece they bought to replace the flex won't fit in the tight corner that was allowed. GC is not here, but his son & one other worker are. Other worker was working on the rigid and said "no way. It's not going to work, not gonna fit." I've tried really hard to not bring stuff up w/ GC in the presence of the others, or to criticize GC to the others in any way, but this time, I said "the flex is not to code" (which I did find out) "due to a potential fire hazard." I don't know what they're going to do. Worker is (I think) on the phone w/ GC right now - out of earshot.

That’s not venting. That’s placing the yuck somewhere else in inside the envelope. And it’s not allowed. If you’re going to vent, it must exit the building. Straight up, through the roof, is always choice #1. If not actually venting, no need for ductwork.
