Bedroom/Bathroom Layout Help! Jack & Jill or Not?
Comments (28)our new build is incorporating a J&J for the kids also. Here's the space from our drawings I don't know how it translates to the space you have, but hopefully it helps. I wanted the kids to have the ability to go to the bathroom/brush their teeth/get ready if someone else was in the shower. Plus the privacy, etc. etc. We had the ability to accommodate two full baths, but found the extra cost to be unnecessary (it was a few thousand in extra plumbing, fixtures, materials). It also meant that each would be a smaller bathroom, versus a nice size J&J. I'm really happy with the decision so far!...See MoreGirls' Jack n Jill bathroom is painted (pics) - Thanks everyone!
Comments (10)Thanks everyone! The wall color is actually brighter & greener in person. Thanks for the suggestions for artwork. I'm excited to pick up some frames & blue craft paint & let the kids paint them! My oldest daughter picked out the frame sitting by her sink that we thought we would hang by the door and it has words like dream, inspire, and believe so maybe they can write some words on pretty paper & we'll put those in the frames. I know my youngest would love to draw pictures but I'm sure my teen daughter would not be too thrilled with that! LOL But maybe we could compromise with 3 words & 2 pictures. Thanks so much everyone for your very kind compliments & suggestions....See MoreJack and Jill Bathroom Improvements
Comments (110)I don't think you will hit your elbows in a 3'6" x 3'6" shower but a shower curtain will work just fine. If you think that adding a glass down the road is a possibility, I would talk to the contractor about the extra cost involved to add a glass later as opposed to now. I see no problem with the curtain but it would allow you to take an informed decision. A curtain is also less maintenance as it is very easy to put it in the washer. Yes this shower is beautiful and the color scheme makes it looks spacious. This is something I mentioned earlier, I encourage you to put the drain in the shower in a location where you don't stand when you shower. It is more comfortable to the feet. In this picture, they put the drain far on the opposite side. They also put the faucet where it is really easy to turn on before entering the shower so you can set the water temperature before you get wet....See MoreJack and Jill Bathroom
Comments (37)I'm not against a well-designed J&J bathroom, but most of the ones we see here are an overly-complex mess -- and this one, with its three doors is no exception. I'm sorry but that is overkill 2 1/2 baths in a 3 bedroom house is plenty! Agree -- unless your hobby is cleaning toilets. What about giving each their own toilet and sink opposite each other in a long closet like WC at each end of this large room, with tub/shower combo between them? Without seeing a floor plan, this sounds like a much better-designed J&J. Everyone prefers a small private bathroom over a shared one. Disagree: - "Small" is not a very exact term -- minimal /barely meets code isn't comfortable, even for a small person like me, and it often means no storage. On the other hand, moderate-in-size is a great option. - The person paying the builder's fee might very well prefer one bathroom over two. - The person cleaning the bathrooms might very well prefer one bathroom over two. - We don't know who's going to be using this bathroom. If these are for college students who are away much of the time, the parents might not want to provide a private bath for kids who are away most of the time. Three doors is a waste of important storage space. Agree, and no one ever says, "I wish I didn't have so many nice closets." I wouldn't concern myself with whether the GC will be annoyed if you make this change. No, but I would care if he added to my bill, so make your changes now. The longer you wait, the more you'll pay....See Morebpath
