Pick a color, any color...seriously! At a loss for MBR
Comments (6)I would look at some of the Historical collections of colors...California Paints, Farrow & Ball or Ben Moore. There are brights within each collection, particularly the first two, but you won't run the risk of going overboard as they are all toned down a bit. F&B Cooking Apple green comes to mind. Or Teresa's Green for more of an aqua. I'd worry a bit that pale blue with a northern exposure will feel too cool. I have F&B Vert de Terre in my bedroom now, a slightly warm green, and I find it just right. I also just used BM Ambiance in my north-facing laundry room. It is soft but still has a touch of red in it for warmth. I remember your stucco disaster. Such a sad story. I am glad to hear you've turned the corner and are getting ready to move on to the good stuff. And I have always loved your house. Hope you still love it too!...See MoreNew Homeowner, new state, and at a loss with front landscape
Comments (9)I think it's kind of rude to comment just to tell me what I did wrong by asking for help (with plenty of detail) and using pictures that were readily available to me. If you are giving advice, which is what I asked for, these pictures are good enough. It doesn't matter on what site, on what forum- there is always one person who just HAS to pipe up to be unhelpful and critique your request instead of answering your questions. I was asking for advice on my own fledgeling plan- not asking for free design from someone. Next time if you don't have anything helpful to say, and if you can't give your thoughts nicely, just don't say anything. I'm sure it's satisfying to try to discourage new gardeners by giving your two cents about their photos, their ideas, and whatever else without giving your opinions on the questions actually posed. Going on the attack like that with the third degree, "You indicate you are new at creating a landscape, and frustrated by attempting the process of planning it. Then you go on to say how you intend to resolve it. Do you care if those ideas are good? Or you just want help in how to implement them? You might consider advice on what you ought to do instead of what you want to do." I'm not a child and am fully capable of planning and doing it on my own, thank you, I'm just here to see if a KIND person might give a few suggestions or point out something they've seen that looked nice on a similar house. Also, there is nothing wrong with being honest about what's in the cards for you (budget, time, and overall investment wise) than just wasting everyone's time. I didn't want a thread with 20 responses about how I need to limb up, thin, or remove trees in my yard. I want a thread about how to plant a line of perennials in front of my house that will look nice together. I think in my essay of a post I made that fairly clear....See MoreLong Flower Bed: At a loss
Comments (13)@Christopher....great idea. I live across the street from the Botanical Gardens and didn't even cross my mind. @Embothorium....Thank you so so much for taking the time to write your thoughtful post. It's is tremendously helpful and I'm pretty excited to look into your recommendations. This is exactly what I needed to start the juices flowing and for me to research a little. @Dig Doug. That is awesome and thanks for taking the time to visualize this for me, which I'm hopeless at. One more question. I noticed there is a black weed barrier, covered with just a little mulch, extending almost the length of the flower bed. It seems pretty old. Is this something that should be pulled out? Thanks again everyone for the responses....See MoreNew House, New Style- help me get direction and make decisions
Comments (177)Oh that's okay....Sometimes I'm looking on CL and I know we have the same vibe going on. I think you're right though----dfw seems to have better stuff. Maybe due to the floods down there? The sofa I showed above is on my CL. I like the table and that's the idea on CL...you need to know the area and check out the what the house looks like in the listing pics. It's part luck, part detective work :) Nice houses usually have good stuff. I had the same trouble with my coffee table...my table is too low (it's from the 70's and they just were that way, I think) and too short. But I like it and there are no decor police. Also, it might be considered a tea table, which have always been higher (closer to end-table height).....See MoreMorgan
