Wood floor, counters and cabinets. Too much wood?
Comments (8)I think it MAY be a lot of wood, but it also could be very pretty. One little concern I had though. You mentioned that this was a "green" remodel. I don't know if you are aware of it, but not all Tigerwood is harvested in an environmentally friendly way. It is from Brazil, and much of it is stripped from the rain forests. Attached is a link that explains more about it and how you can insure that the wood you are buying was not taken from old-growth rain forests. Tigerwood is being farmed for harvest, but it is second-growth and not old-growth. Some companies are responsible, but unfortunatly most are not. Please don't take this as criticism because that is really not how I meant it. I just wanted to inform you, in case you didn't know. Tigerwood is not usually a very green product. Comments (9)Take a look at Pirula's kitchen in the Finished Kitchen Blog--link below. She has slab cherry counters and wood floors, and her kitchen is gorgeous! Her counters and floor don't match exactly, but they look great together. (Dianalo is right about tones needing to match, I think.) Her counters were the inspiration for ours, although ours are oak. Do you have samples of the floor and counter you're thinking about? If the samples look good together, then I think you're OK. Comments (14)I know someone who has light oak floors and walls covered with light oak bookcases, with light oak, mission style furniture. I joke about it being a squirrel's nut store, but with the shelves full, paint on the walls, some Persian rugs and brightly colored art, it really looks fine. I don't remember what your floor is. If you have some contrast with the cabinets, it'll be fine! I've seen a lot of wood kitchens with wood walls and wood floors in wooded glades, and done right they actually look fantastic! Very easy on the eyes, and all the wood inside doesn't compete with the views. Instead it makes them come alive. The green would be pretty too, though I think white would be distracting if you have a lot of windows. I know how you feel. I have vertical bamboo, and put cabinets wherever I had a wall. I was worried it would be a bamboo forest and considered painting the pantry. My GW friends called it "gumby" (it was just computer generated green). I didn't do it. There's a lot of bamboo, but with all the other finishes, it doesn't loom, and isn't overwhelming after all. My advice? If you still love the oak, get the oak. And choose a contrast wall color (such as the green), and put some bright accents in, maybe some shiny or light colored hardware, and enjoy it!...See MoreIs two different turquoise bedrooms too much turquoise?
Comments (19)I think it will work. Have your son keep going with his decorating and help him find bedding that will tie the two different blues together. Love that he is so interested in how his room will look. Even 7 year old’s take pride in ownership! I had this wonderful neighbor, who had raised a large family. Her advice to me was to save the “no’s” for those requests which must be a “no”. In another 9 years, he will be looking for something else which is turquoise. This is where you might say no?...See MoreKara J
