Hello all! New user here and looking for some opinions on the story behind my bathtub before beginning a bathroom reno.

We just bought this ~100 year old house and here's what the bathtub currently looks like. It appears to be a very old tub that at some point was enclosed in wood, I am guessing to make it easier to convert into a shower. What do you guys think? I am wondering if there's an old freestanding claw foot tub under there.

Also wondering what I'm in for if I pull the wood away from the tub. Ideally, I would like to keep the tub but fully update the walls/tile around it. If it's a claw foot tub, that will obviously call for some special considerations with the floor underneath and the plumbing fixtures. Any input from more experienced bathroom remodelers would be very helpful!
