WANTED: I need help, I need a super fast growing hedge?
Comments (8)I knew as soon as I seen this, that is was a neighbor issue, been there done that, I mentioned forsythia to you on another thread, but now that I see this I wanted to add that you ought to plant rose bushes in a row, the ones that have the largest thorns you can find, in case he tries to come any closer. we had a guy that lives diagonal from us that was standing outside of his door with a video camera, DH sees him while he was messing in the fridge (keep in mind we have a giant white pine tree, that is over our kitchen window) DH from the fridge, starts bobbing and weaving to try to see through the tree at this guy to see what he is doing and he jumped back in the house with the camera, now isn't that spooky? I hate to keep the sun out of my house, but I really think mini blinds are the best thing invented, and they are inexpensive....See MoreI need your help with how to plant bulbs in window boxes
Comments (5)Well, I know they got well chilled in that cool dark room over the course of winter. About mid-March I potted them all up using 8 and 10 inch pots. Packed in the tulips well, I think 6-8 per 8 inch pot, 10-12 per 10 inch pot. Only filled the pots halfway with potting soil, then set in the bulbs and barely covered them with soil. My solarium in general is warmer than the outdoors- it's pretty much a large three seasons porch. I put the pots onto the potting bench I have stretching across the south face of the room, and when they started showing serious leaning, I moved the pots under the skylight. By the time the first weekend in May hit, the earliest of the tulips was just getting past peak, and the latest of them was just starting to come into bloom. You can dry out your bulbs in a single layer- like spread out on the kitchen table or something like that. After they are dry, you can store them in a mesh bag in a cool dark place....See MoreI need your help on growing Tomatoes from seed
Comments (1)1. If you use a heating mat without a thermostat, you run the risk of overheating the seeds. At least monitor the soil temperature with a thermometer for the first day or two to make sure the temperature doesn't go off the scale. 2. I don't like the peat pots, but that another story :) You can start whichever way you like. Starting in larger pots takes more space, transplanting knocks some seedlings back. Tomatoes transplant easily. 3. Maybe you should stick an empty tray of soil in the propogator overnight with a thermometer and see what happens. You'll probably be just about OK, but what are you going to do when the plants are a foot high? 4. Do it if you need more heat than just the propgator alone, or the plants get too big for the propogator....See MoreHelp getting me started on using my new grow lights.
