Was the brick originally like it is now or has it been painted in the past?

It was painted off white in the past and was peeling. We just power washed it and plan to repaint it.

And this is why so many people recommend against painting brick. Now the new owner needs to repaint, then it will need repainting down the road. It would be much more fun to use the paint budget for additional landscaping and a new walkway in front of the house or the other many things the new owner might like.

That's what happens when it's not painted properly.

It's a different story when brick is painted with the proper prep and product.

With that said, the look you have right now is a look people work really hard to achieve.

The flaking paint on brick might just be serendipity.

If we left the brick as it is, what color do you suggest painting the siding and trim?

What color are your windows are they painted that color?

Yes, they have been painted dark brown but we can change that.

I would recommend painting it white. Then your brown garage door which looks contemporary would make the house stand out. Also, I would recommend adding some planter boxes below the 2 windows to make it look inviting. Also, recommend matching your entry door to the garage door. Good luck.

Is the roof new? The pitch looks really low for a shingle roof unless it has a membrane underneath. I would leave the bricks as they are. It looks sharp and modern with the dark windows and trim. A dark storm door without the grill and a wider sidewalk would look nice.

The siding, garage door and downspouts - paint them the same color of white that's on the bricks.

And updating the door to go with the new look would do wonders.

I think you should make a trip to the paint store with a sample of the roof. The current dark brown is not quite right. It needs more red in it. See if you can get a medium brown that compliments the roof more.

Was the garage a car port originally? I'm also curious why they didn't brick across the top of the windows.

Since this will be a rental house, we plan to replace the roof with an aluminum one (due to the low pitch to help water run off) Here is a photo of what we have with some paint samples from SW.
