I think she's talking about the green fish scale type trim rather than the roof shingles. Dark red is a really heavy,solid, down to earth color, so the light yellow looks a bit lightweight with it. I've always liked dark green with dark red or Oxblood brick, and oddly enough black works really well with it. Since true black is awfully heavy and awfully hot, you might try painting some of your trim, like that around the window, a deep charcoal, and maybe paint the porch rails a spanking white for contrast. The concrete porch could be painted some unobtrusive, generic, all-purpose color, like brown. Concrete absorbs paint really well if you etch it a bit first, and then you can seal it. I once saw a really neat porch on a Victorian type house. The guy had the Builder put a layer of wide boards over the concrete porch for a more authentic antique look. Your house is gorgeous, so have fun.

I'm glad you're firm about not painting the brick. The brick is a natural, textured feature of your house that allows it to breathe and requires litte maintenance over time. Since you have a visible light brown roof, your trim needs to work with that as well as the brick. Here are houses with the same varieted brick as yours, one with a brown roof. You can pick up a greige for the trim with maybe a light blue or yellow door or this light green. Just don't do white--too much contrast. I'm showing this for the tan. Though the door is handsome and like yours, a lighter door might be better on your house since it's receded and looks too dark right now.

I would paint the garage doors some color whose intensity mirrors the brick. I don't know what color because I can't see the roof color, which should also be taken into account. You could also paint your storm door the color of the front door to make both stand out.

We just installed new Window World windows (using their "beige" trim) and will be putting a new roof, soffit and fascia on this small brick house. Would love to receive your suggestions on color(s) to make this home pop. The new roof will be architectural shingles in "Estate Grey" which is a blend of medium and dark grey shingles. We will be painting the new soffit and fascia. It looks like the old soffit and fascia was painted white. We will be repainting the window trim (which is currently an unknown dark creamy beige which does not look particularly good with the new window trim color). We will be repainting the shutters (which are currently dark New Orleans green which does look good with the brick--we just want to consider other colors for a new look). We want to change the color of the (concrete) porch landing and steps (currently painted a dark brick red). Our painter has suggested a dark grey for the landing and steps--a nod to the color of the new roof. The screen door is old--but still usable, so we will need to repaint it. The front door (which you can barely see in the photo) is the same dark creamy beige as the window trim and will need to be repainted. The old copper gutters will be coming off. The iron railing will remain, and it will also be painted -- probably the same color as whatever we paint the shutters. No one in the family has an eye for this, so any suggestions for color of soffit, fascia, window trim, shutters and porch would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Anne in Baton Rouge
