Also, in regard to the hot oven door on a BS, it's pretty relative. I caught my 4 yo sitting on the floor w/his back against the oven 'warming up' while it was on ~400 deg. It's hot but no hotter than the bottom panel of my Wolf 30" wall oven while it's running, in fact, that oven has surprised me in regard to the 'hot' panels as I've never heard 1 complaint about a Wolf oven door (or panel) getting hot. To me neither are 'too' hot.

The confusion is in the word seasoning in this application. OK it's not a wok or a cast iron pan that needs to be properly seasoned but here's Bluestar's recommendation: This is from the BS web site..."Your ring grates, top grates and burner heads may darken over time with use. This is normal. TIP: To prevent your burners from darkening at an uneven rate, rotate the ring grate and top grates between more and less active burners. BURNER CLEANING Ring Grates and Top Grates TIP: Clean spills as soon as possible to prevent sticking and build up.  When burner is cool, remove the ring grate, top grate and center filler grate (30” models only).  Wash in hot, soapy water. Rinse well and dry thoroughly to prevent rusting.  Handle gently to prevent nicks/chips, which can lead to rusting TIP: If you have a nick or chip you can season the area to prevent rusting. Nicks or chips are not covered under warranty.  Put corn oil or other high smoke point oil on a paper towel and rub onto rusted area.  Wipe away excess oil and replace the part on the range. Do not submerge the burner grates in water for extended periods of time. Prolonged exposure to moisture may cause rusting.  For heavy soiling, use a commercially available oven cleaner. Follow the cleaner manufacturer’s instructions. Make sure the cleaning chemicals do not contact any stainless steel or painted surface on your appliance.  Reinstall grates in cooktop and make sure they are seated properly, and do not move unsteadily from side to side". So, BS says it's OK to hand wash or DW and they also use the word "season" so this is maybe why it's a bit confusing to some. It's not seasoning in the traditional sense but oil on these grates will keep them looking good over the life of the grates, IMHO. This isn't that different from keeping your backyard BBQ grates from rusting, same principle.... Here's a tutorial for cleaning, this is just informational.... cleaning your bluestar grates

My closest scheduled demo is about 80 miles. I could just hop the train and attend the Architectural Digest show in NYC in March. I called the Blue Star District Manager and left a message on his voice mail. We are going to order the Platinum range but haven't decided about the wall oven as yet. kooopons - Thanks for the info. We're about 90 minutes from Reading and I wish they would offer demos there. I think they did at one time. We're also thinking of the blue knobs too - although DH is contemplating a color on the range and hood. I'm not sure I can handle that.

I see this thread was recently raised from the dead and figured I'll share my $0.02. We remodeled a smallish galley-style kitchen in 2019 including install of a 48" RNB w 12" griddle and matching BS hood. Range was about $10k, hood and makeup air probably another $10k installed. I worked in college as a cook, so I knew I would love the griddle w/thermostat control, and I was right. I heavily debated either 24" griddle or chargrill, but decided to get the 6 burners. I'm happy with my decision but honestly I think I'd be just as happy with one of the other configurations. One thing I definitely don't regret is going RNB instead of Platinum. The 22k burners are plenty hot even for stir fry and deep frying, and the griddle is so good I can't imagine not having it. One other thing... as winter is approaching this year I started thinking about grilling indoors. I was wondering if there is an aftermarket grill grid that would fit above the BS burners similar to the Platinum grill/griddle. After a lot of searching I found Grill Grates, which has a commercial offering that is almost a perfect fit. After a few tests, I can say it works very well; better sear than my outdoor grill, in fact. I can add more details or photos of my setup if you're interested.
