Blue Star 48'range questions
Comments (7)Much of the information you are looking for is posted here in various threads. I would recommend taking some time to scan through them. There are many BS owners here, as well as at least one seller (Trevor, who is great to do business with BTW), who have significant experience with these ranges. To answer your specific questions... 1. My door gets HOT when I run it at 500deg for pizza. I have measured it at 200+ in a few spots at the bottom of the door. The glass is more like 170-180 at these temps. This is worst case. At 350deg, it is warm on the glass, but not hot. I have little kids, so I am careful, but not concerned. 2. Gas vs Electric.... been argued to death. Unless you are a professional, you won't see a difference. 3. The bigger the oven, the longer it takes to heat. 24" is faster than 30", and 30" is faster than 36". My 30" takes 20-25 min to hit 500. 350deg is more like 10-15min. In my opinion, anything under 1/2 hour is good enough to plan ahead for. It takes me at least that long to get my act together before I put anything in the oven anyways. 4. Wolf vs BlueStar vs SuperTurboFlameMaster2000.... all depends on what is most important to you. If you lay out your needs, wants and wishes, I'm sure you will get more opinions than you can take. Some might actually be helpful. FWIW - I love my Bluestar 30". It is hot, solid and really pretty. Not perfect, but the best I'll ever cook on. - Hope this helps...See More30' American Range or 30' Blue Star Ranges
Comments (10)Both of these ranges are All Gas, and don't have many bells and whistles. I have a Bluestar and use a cheap CDN digital thermometer with a probe and timer ($20). Seems to work fine for me, and I'm glad it's not built in. I don't think there are any better gas ranges than these. You can add Wolf and Capital and that's about it. Capital has the most features (no digital timers etc, but is available with self clean option and rotisserie). My neighbor has an American Residential range, and I have a Bluestar. I think they're both very well made. The Bluestar has big,8-pointed, Star shaped, open burners- and these are the best there are. The American has a couple extra indicator lights, a broiler that shuts off if you open the door, and 2 fans for convection. The biggest difference is that the top is sealed and stainless with iron grates. (The entire top of a Bluestar is removable Cast Iron.) If I had to do it again, I'd get the Bluestar (again). For no other reason than the top burners. BTW, both of these have large, powerful gas ovens with commercial quality infra-red broilers. They take a while to pre-heat, but it's no fault of the oven burner (30,000 BTU's) What I can't tell you is if one is better insulated than another. Someday I'll get a chance to bake with the American, then I'll know more....See Moreany opinions on a 36"gas Wolf range vs a 36" Blue Star range???
Comments (17)We have had the 36" Blue Star range (model RCS36SB) for about 5 years and would not recommend it. The knobs get very warm and we have had problems with the convection fan as well as ignition (gas would build up in the oven while it failed to ignite), both problems required multiple service visits The latest problem, the oven knob broke off and Bluestar said they no longer manufacture the part. Bluestar said they changed from a mechanical thermostat to an electronic thermostat and the ”upgrade” would cost $350 to purchase, not including installation (total cost estimated at least $500). I assume they redeigned the oven knob/thermostat because they had so many problems with the knob, convection and ignition. Even though it was under warranty and the knob broke due to faulty design, the service manager refused to provide a replacement part. I guess you can expect problems to occur with any appliance, but I do not expect them to provide such poor service, especially when they know it broke due to their own design flaw. It takes them days to follow up on service questions. Best to stay away from Blue Star....See Moresafety of Blue Star RCS gas range vs. Wolf gas range
Comments (1)They should at most get uncomfortable hot, not burn instantly hot. Might actually be a good learning tool to get them to pay attention near cooking appliances!...See Moremaire_cate
