Comments (13)Two other tile sources to check out: Mission Tile and Rookwood. I have some Motawi accent tiles in my kitchen and heartily endorse them too. Keep in mind that though all of the these companies are quite pricey, you can buy just the accent tiles from them and find something that's compatible, but cheaper, as a field tile. The Motawi tiles are quite thick...nearly half an inch, so it took some finagling to get them to look right with thinner field tiles from another company (Ann Sacks) surrounding them. But it can be done....See MoreHow do you coordinate without being matchy-matchy?
Comments (27)I say -- don't overthink it. I'm definitely an "I'll know it when I see it" person and it has served me well. Don't apologize for it. I really like your patinated chandelier, your comfortably used faucet (it's got some style!) the stove -- it's relaxed, no-fixed-decade. It's no time to get uptight about finishes! I'd say you have a good sense of your own style. TRUST IT. Don't choose a finish you don't like just "to be consistent" or because someone told you you have to. I have polished nickel, antique brass, new unlacquered brass, old filthy dirty brass, stainless steel, black forged iron -- and a few other things I can't remember in my kitchen. It all gets along. In fact the more things you put together, the better it works, because it's not like you have a big beige room with 23 satin nickel handles and one polished nickel one. You have a rich crazy quilt/gumbo of elements and no single dominant one, but your good taste has selected each, and they get along because you know when they don't. I agree with Circuspeanut that some finishes just attract too much attention to themselves, and they tend to be the more modern ones like satin nickel and ORB. But if you love them, and they work in your particular mix, then go for it. Did you look at the Schoolhouse Lighting custard line of shades? Just a thought. Something to consider is that Schoolhouse, and probably some other companies too, may have options not listed on their Web sites, and may be able to make you up a custom fixture. So if you see something on their site that is very close to what you want, but in just the wrong finish, or the chain isn't right, call or e-mail and ask if that thing can be changed. I did, and the cost was like $30 extra for my particular alteration. It's always worth asking. Good luck!...See MoreHelp me fix /decorate my my living room into Eclectic and yet cosy.
Comments (34)Don't move the credenza then. Get an area rug, center one group of seating around fireplace and conversation and then maybe get a tea cart or something and put a small chair or two around that near the doors/windows to the outside. You can sit and sip your tea and watch the birdies outside there in the winter! When the weather gets nice you can carry the chairs out to the deck to sit in the sun! Then roll the cart out there with some cocktails later in the day!...See MorePlease help me avoid unpleasant lighting in kitchen
Comments (33)Cree and Phillips are reviewed well . Cree in particular for the dimmable bulbs. Both brands are carried at HOMe depot. You can spend more and purchase online but I was happy with being able to have them in boxes....try them and return those that were not correct till I got it figured out. We went Through a bit of all this for new fixtures on the exterior. Dimmers and understanding that the cheap off brands are to be avoided is important. I would not get above the $teens in dollar amt even if it says 15 yr bulb....the percentage of light in the bulb that is useful decreases over time and 25 dollar bulb may degrade equaliy as a good or better Phillips at 8 or 10 dollars. The issues w kelvin and soft vs bright are pretty straightforward to figure out. Quality issues are a little more obscure but studies and reviews are presented now w some searching from the consumer,...See MoreK Laurence
