Are you sure the drawers are closing on the line since drawers are usually narrower than the depth of the cabinet?

I don't have this setup, but I would think this is not good!

My sister has drawers under her cooktop and they are less deep than her other drawers in order to avoid this issue.

Secure the line, and possibly notch the drawer if there is not appropriate slack left to pull it against the cabinet side wall. Or get the longer flex line that does allow it to be secured.

It's a clever soft-close drawer feature, until your house explodes. To be fair, your house will probably not explode for a long time.

Building codes require gas appliances to be installed according to the manufacturer's published installation instructions. In the case of a gas cooktop, the instructions should include a warning about interference from a drawer or from the contents of a drawer.

The installers should correct the installation; no one else should touch it. Definitely bring it up in the walk-through. Its not a complaint; you will be pointing out something the contractor is contractually obligated to do but overlooked. Its what a walk-through is for.

When we sold my dad's house, the home inspector found a similar issue which we fixed. I would think the inspector for the gas company would say something. It also had to pass reinspection.

Our first apartment was new construction in an *unincorporated* area (lax code inspections). We'd been in a few weeks when I opened cupboards under the cooktop one evening and found a cheery little flame burning on the gas supply line. With one strong draft to extinguish it we could have died in our sleep -- oh, probably not, given the *porous* nature of the walls and windows.

A Gas Code Violation at its finest !

Why doesn't whomever installed the flex line simply clip it to the rear of the cabinet, or better yet, to the wall behind the cabinet.

Problem solved.

I first thought this was a baseball question.

I vote for "not" a safe gas line condition.

Its not less of an issue because its a flex line. Every time the pipe is moved it may put pressure on the connections and that may eventually cause a leak.

Virgil, I could write a book about the issues we've had. We have had the usual inspections from our local building code inspector along the way. This is something I discovered while dealing with the sub standard installation of the cooktop. We have our 30 day walk through today. The construction manager installed the cooktop and we haven't been happy with his "workmanship" on most things. Fortunately, he didn't do much. Anyway, I appreciate all the comments. Thanks so much.

Unfortunately guys like that seem to be most competent at denying responsibility and avoiding producing quality. You can not be hesitant about your position. You must maintain it again and again until he sees it's taking more energy avoiding than it would to rectify the problem. This should have been done right from the very first instance. It's the only way to deal with this character trait other than replacement.

We paid for a private inspection as well, and he didn't catch it. I'll give an update after the home warranty guy comes today.

Another dilemma... When the hand held sprayer in the bathtub is extended, there is insulation coming through the opening in the tub. I also feel cold air coming through the same opening when the AC is on. What could be going on here? I just realized this after being in the house for 30 days.
