Oops! I just now found this, after pontificating a bit after one of your other articles about the back-protection phenomenon.

Another point about feeling safe - only a few days ago, a fascinating theory came to me, and I'd like to try out. It has to do with the fact that most of us, as children, had to learn not to fall out of bed. And we learned the hard way! Doesn't it seem, then, like there has to be an amount of tension or vigilance associated with simply going to sleep in a bed? I'm wondering whether creating a bed with sides - nice soft ones, so there's the feeling of being snuggled into a cozy basket - would allow for deeper sleep? Crazy, huh? But it just seems so logical...

PS I definitely have chipmunk brain. Maybe THEY are descended from us, is my guess.

Patatas, try it with body pillows but I think I'd feel smushed and crowded.

Breathing life into old post @Patatas currently I have my queen bed sideways with the long side against the walls with bunch of pillows from throw size up to body pillows. Sooo comfortable. Soon moving into my first home with bigger bedroom and will place bed off the wall but will have canopy with lots of fabric to keep me safe! Like the ideas of cushioned sides! If I could find an adult sized wicker basket bed with canopy that would be ideal lol
