Casual blouses or knit tops???
Comments (20)I like Land's End, Eddie Bauer and LL Bean for casual tops. I just got a great fitted long sleeve T at the local EB outlet. I prefer tops to be a little long, to the mid-hip, and a little fitted around the bust. The length helps disguise the tummy and the fitted bust distracts (the men at least!) from the tummy. Because I'm busty I can find tops that are fitted (snug but not tight) there that still skim over the tummy because my hips are thin. Blouses are tough for me. To get them to fit my bust (so the buttons don't gap) they end up being too big in the shoulders and the body is too baggy. The fitted ones don't work because my chest doesn't fit in the darted area correctly. I generally only wear a blouse when I'll be wearing a jacket or cardigan over it....See MoreCasual fashion for the older women?
Comments (56)I'm not in the age range considered 'older' yet, but we all get there at some point! I buy most of my clothing online, only items that have reviews (I look at the 3 stars, that's where I've found the most helpful and reality-based reviews on everything from electronics to clothing. If there aren't any 3 star and its all 5 starred reviews I look elsewhere just as I do when it's only 1-2 star). If you can take your measurements accurately (helps to have someone to assist in this) then you can generally determine whether a given article of clothing is going to fit. If looking for bras, check out the reddit /abrathatfits for a more detailed list of measurements you need to properly determine size. I do know how to sew, which makes it easy for me to alter instead of sending back. Mostly the issues are in the waist area - GG/H cup 32 band and junk in the trunk but only 5'1.5". Tunics to wear with leggings can be quickly altered with a couple well placed darts in the back so that I don't look like I'm wearing a tent but am not hiding my figure 'assets'. Ordering online has the benefit of finding clothing for little money - also spending less for something tends to make it easier to not freak out when the garment inevitably starts to fall apart. Do I wish that the simple cotton tees or knit dresses were made with the better, thicker materials like they were back in my not-so-long-ago college days? Absolutely. But wishing won't make it happen. We've traded more sturdy and long lasting retail goods we bought precisely because they would last for 'fast fashion' that meets customer demand for cheap and on trend with the disposable quality that keeps retailers in business. The same thing has happened in nearly every category of retail goods - appliances, home decor, etc...We've been convinced that we must consume and buy the latest tech, the latest trend. Sometimes I can still find high quality clothing, but it comes at an equally high price - my Lands End all-weather coat would be one of those purchases. Same for my skirt suits for work bought at Nordstrom (which I like because they will do free alterations on clothing purchased at one of their locations). When paired with my latest crop of trendy cheap knit tops, the fact that I only have a few of those more expensive components like the skirts/pants/jackets is unnoticeable....See MoreMisc fall fashion questions
Comments (49)Okay, so here is a pretty bad mock-up of Outfit 1. I am wearing it to an event this weekend. Black velvet blazer, black tuxedo stripe pants (which are darker than they appear here), heels, "Hyacinth Blue" cami, and a black patent St John clutch. I have another purse that picks up the blue but it is a small cross body and I think it looks teen-ish? So, my question is in re OUTFIT 2. I am going to a bnai mitzvah and I want to repeat the outfit, except the v-neck on Outfit 1 is abit too sexy on. I want something that won't show cleavage - or very little - but can go day into night at a rather fancy affair. Here are some choices to replace the blue top above. 1. Pale pink --- i look good in this color, it is "in", and I have not one but 2 purses in this shade (which is not necessarily a spring color because it has sort of brown/mauve tones). 2. Champagne --- flattering, classic, would look great w my Tahitian pearl choker 3. Goldish knit w fringe --- Knit tops like this tend to flatter me, and the color is good for blondes. 4.Electric Blue w black piping - reminds me of a shirt I had in the early 90s! The piping will look nice, but I don't wear such strong colors anymore 5. Floral - I think this is so pretty, but not sure it would flatter, it seems loose. I like it a lot in a mock-up because it make the outfit almost monochromatic VOTE?...See MoreIs this blouse work appropriate?
Comments (41)My DH bought me an outrageously expensive (for us) pair of fringed and beaded boots (I love boho stuff), after I admired them and whined that I longed for them to be mine. I've had them for about 18 months now and have worn them twice. The fringe makes swish-swish-swish sounds when I walk, and that makes heads turn -- in a "not so good" kind of way. I had no idea they'd be so "loud", but I still look at them in the closet and admire them daily, so hopefully that counts for something....See More- 5 years ago
