Sounds like you are doing everything right. The best way to handle scale is by hand. Wash the tree down by hand. The safer-soap you used is great. You will have to clean them daily to clear this out. Also make sure the area you have it located does not have plants that allow it to become infested again or for it to infest others. I raise orchids. This is the only thing we could do that would not chemically expose the plants and possibly blast the blooms. You did not mention which type of scale your tree has. I am assuming it is brown scale. There are many links on the web with information on scale. The basics are, clean the plant daily. I also use a 50/50 mix of water and lemon juice (can substitute lemonlime soda for lemon juice where ants are not a problem)to wash down the entire plants weekly. It deep cleans them and leave them looking very pretty. You can even mix in some alcohol to kill the pests. Good luck!

If there was a way to put that bar into your greenhouse, just think of the possibilities...lol Have you been able to get all your plants out of the yard? The perennials and shrubs and stuff? Then all your citrus and others.? By the way, don't forget to take Sugar with you...lol How far from your original home is this? Is the weather the same there? You must be getting very excited to get your new place all done and to set up that greenhouse..Always just on time...You will have it set up before the cold weather moves in, much earlier than you last attempt..lol You do have the plastic cover already or will the one you already have be big enough? Please, if you could, could you start a new Thread about your whole set up, the progress, pics of the trees, yard and the building process if you get time? I am thinking many here would love to be by your side when you do like me... Parker T - > just FYI - in my particular yards, I had conflicting scenarios (after dips to 18-19F) but have a different preference. I've "soured" on any cultivar with 'quat in its name; they are not as cold hardy as I had hoped. In Napa, the Eustis Limequat (on Volk) was killed to just about the graft - regrew and is now 10 ft. tall - took over a year. The Bearss lime just lost its leaves and refoliated, produced a huge crop right away. In Danville, the Bearrs lime was completely destroyed, the Volk rootstock lived. While the Eustis in my neighbor's yard was defoliated and came back. From what I've seen since, the Eustis fruit gets destroyed quickly when the temps go below freezing. The Bearss lime fruit can and has survived to 29/30F. So my vote is for the Bearss or Persian lime -because I want fruit! - far better for my climate's fall/winter dips below freezing. - George

I don't think those splits are a threat to your tree. You will have to spray many times to get rids of the scale.
