Anyone participating in Amazon's Prime Day tomorrow?
Comments (31)We try to buy made in the USA Cindy, but don't always succeed - of course. Quite simply, I do not care for Walmart. I'm sure there are stores/businesses you don't care for. I'm sure there are bad things about Amazon. Lukki. I didn't see that show. My brother actually works at Amazon and is quite happy there. I like that I can search for what I want, research the item if need be, and quite often come up with a very good price - and then have it delivered. We have prime and while I rarely order something that I need in 2 days, I do like the quick delivery. I will say that the very few (maybe 2) times I've needed to return something, customer service was excellent. Still, I'm sure there is a downside. Amazon reviews are a good thing in my book and sometimes I'll even read the reviews there even if I'm purchasing the item elsewhere....See MoreThinking of joining Amazon Prime? Here's a one-day sale.
Comments (14)Do read the fine print on everything. Prime shipping isn't all free. Often an item on Prime costs $5 more than the same item without prime. They just build shipping into the price. Additionally, often one version will be on Prime, and the others aren't (and sometimes there are different prices depending on color or whatever). That happens more with outside vendors who use Amazon for fulfillment, but sometimes for direct purchases from Amazon, too. Kindle Unlimited is a separate fee. It does cover about 100,000 popular titles, but the other 500,000 are self-published on Amazon books, so the number of titles available is misleading. Not all the self-published stuff is bad, but little of it is very good, based on my sampling. I got Unlimited at a big discount on Prime Day because I figured I'd use it enough to pay for itself at the reduced price. I figured I wouldn't at the regular price. KindleUnlimited only lets you have ten titles at a time, though you can read them across devices (up to six). You have to give back some to get more. I have a Kindle Paperwhite which I use for the daily paper. I'm allergic to the new inks and can't read the paper on paper anymore, and I love that it just shows up and I don't have to put on a coat and go outside for it. I read books more on my phone and tablet, however. The lending thing is okay, but I find it confusing. Echo is also something to look into. Prime Instant video is great. I use it on my iPad. With titles that aren't on Prime, however, it can be a pain. The best thing, however, if you live anywhere within the catchment of one of their big distribution centers, is the amount of one day, or even same day, deliveries that are possible. Mimipadv, I definitely remember driving all over town looking for what used to be available at a local store, or should have been available at every store, etc. When you need something right away and don't have time to go chasing it, and Amazon can deliver it for less than parking would cost, it's a real boon....See MoreAmazon Prime..would you?
Comments (53)We have had prime for years, even before they offered streaming. Somehow I received my first year free and there has been no looking back. What I like the most is not having to drive around looking for whatever it is I am trying to buy, it always seems to be a challenge. That said I do review prices between other stores/websites such as Target, and Home Depot, for example Amazon does not even come close to meeting the price I pay for bird seed through Home Depot. Even with shopping other websites and locally for many things, Amazon is a huge timesaver and worth the money for me....See MoreI finally 'discovered' Amazon Prime
Comments (27)I order from Amazon a lot. I used to use it only for the quick shipping but I recently started occasionally using Prime Video. Sometimes I'll order from Walmart(dot)com. Usually I can do better there when ordering non-perishable grocery items. I'm on a budget so I compare prices. If it costs more to order online than walking into Walmart, I walk into Walmart and get it. Paying more for the convenience, or having to tip for a Walmart grocery delivery, doesn't fit into my budget. I'd love it if Amazon would extent Amazon Fresh into my area. I was hoping the pandemic would nudge them into it but it has not. Amazon prices (even when sold by Amazon) can vary anywhere from a really good deal to an absolute ripoff so I sometimes make use of the 3 camel Firefox addon to notify me when an Amazon listing drops to the price point I specify: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/the-camelizer-price-history-ch/ When/if Walmart finally goes back up 24 hours, I'll likely return to my old routine. Shop often, just getting a handful of items, whatever looks good at the time. Late at night they were never busy. This town is rat-racy right up until... 10 PM or so but then it's dead, which I love....See Morecathyinpa
