Should I install heated flooring in my kitchen?
Comments (12)katsmah - Your cost may be a lot lower depending on the size of your kitchen. My price was to do a kitchen and family room which total about 850 sq ft. A typical 12 x 12 kitchen may only be about 20% of that cost, especially when you remove the portion covered by cabinets. susanelewis - I suggest that you talk to a few of the companies that provide the mats/wires. I asked a lot of questions, and Warmup was very good about answering them. In particular they told me some companies coat their wires with PVC, but they use teflon. Also, their wires get hotter than the others and that is why their product is rated to be used as a sole heat source (not just to keep the floor warm). Their warranty was longer than most also, but I'm not sure that is a big issue since none of them will cover the cost to tear up and re-tile your floor......See MoreWhich direction should I lay my flooring?
Comments (20)Floating floors have 'length' maximums and 'width' maximums. That means t-moldings will need to be used at some point. Usually those points are in doorways. They can also be found at 'pinch points' like at the end of a narrow hallway BEFORE it enters into a larger space (like a great room attached to a kitchen). Please read your installation instruction of the product you have chosen. It will tell you the maximum runs (length and width) of your flooring. Some are as little as 30 linear feet (lengthwise) and others are as much as 50 linear feet (lengthwise). Go ahead and measure the entire length of your townhouse (front to back and side to side). You will get a VERY GOOD idea as to whether or not you are allowed (by the manufacturer) to install a continuous floor (no t-moldings). In general floating floors do NOT like to be installed AROUND a centre pillar like yours (in a doughnut shape with the centre being taken up by the kitchen). It is usually a VERY BAD idea to have a countinuous floating floor (everything connected to each other) in a circle like that. Only glue down or permanent floors get to do that sort of stuff (like porcelain tiles or glue down hardwoods). Be VERY AWARE of the limitations of YOUR HOME and YOUR FLOORING CHOICE....See MoreShould I choose waterproof laminate flooring for my entire house?
Comments (28)Kristine Kelly, At first I was using premixed Murphys Oil Soap that comes in spray bottle. Supposed to not leave any residue. But after a lot of research am now using just plain water. Works well. Shaw makes a spray that you can find online too. Haven’t tried it yet....See MoreWhich direction should I lay my LVP flooring?
Comments (6)I disagree I would do the long run infront of you when you enter but the best is too find out how the beams run and do perpendicular to thta to make the fake wood look more real. Please do not put the TV above the FP you have space on the left use a nice cabinet withTV wall mounted on an articulating are above the cabinet .That puts the TV at proper viewing height then a nic ematch cabine on the other side of the FP with a nice piecce of art above to balance the TV then you can either hang more art , just add a nice thick wood mantel and decorate only the mantel...See Moresofaspud
