Help! Knobs or handles for flat panel and shaker kitchen?
My kitchen will be a mix of white shaker cabinetry (uppers and pantry) and walnut flat panel cabinetry (lowers and island).
(This is in part because I am not doing the kitchen from scratch -- I am painting the existing shaker uppers and refacing the flat panel lowers).
Until now I was thinking of doing knobs on the cabinets and handles on the drawers, however I am yet to see a picture of knobs on flat panel walnut cabinetry!
I'm now thinking to do handles on everything, as in the photo below.
Any advice?
If I do all handles, is it fine to do them vertical on cabinets? I've seen both looks.

Comments (5)Hmm. Well the company says they're now doing this because it secures the door to the drawer body better. They were plastic but apparently just changed to metal , and KD is getting samples of that hardware next week to show me. I would LOVE to see photos of yours, buehl, if it isn't a huge inconvenience. Perhaps they are the same and I should just not worry about it. Metal might look better than the gommy tan plastic ones I saw last week... Comments (12)I have the beveled edge Shaker and can confirm that you don't have to clean the corners. I also used the flat panel drawer fronts on all drawers under 8", just like the Shakers did. I have two 4-drawer stacks where the top three drawers are flat. I have natural cherry and love the grain of the cherry on the flat panels. Comments (11)Would they be a functional faux pas? Have you handled them in person? Are they easy to grip? Easy to clean? Easy to use to open a large heavily loaded drawer/ Do they hurt when you accidentally bump them? The wrong answers to these would make them a "no" for me. I've never seen these in person, so there might not be any issues, but I would want to find out before I committed to a full kitchen of them. Comments (10)I did flat panel on all of the narrow top drawers and shaker on the larger bottom two drawers; my stacks were a uniform 3 drawers. I preferred the look of the centered handle on the flat narrow drawer over the centered handle on a narrow shaker.one. I think all three options/combos come down to personal preference....See More

Follow up question, what do you think of matte black pulls against the walnut flat front lower cabinets and white shaker upper cabinets? Picture of my actual kitchen in progress below (you can see a yet-to-be-painted white shaker in the upper right corner)
