acid relux
Comments (10)There can be an underlying anatomic problem causing acid reflux - hiatal hernia, This occurs when part of the stomach prolapses upward through your diaphragm (a muscular structure which normally has a small gap to allow passage of the esophagus). Hiatal hernias may be asymptomatic, but if large enough tend to cause reflux of acid into the esophagus and symptoms of reflux. The dietary and lifestyle measures mentioned earlier may be enough to relieve symptoms, but if they or meds don't do the trick, surgery to fix the hiatal hernia may be necessary. Any other underlying G.I. issues would require a good gastroenterology consultation and not a nebulous "gut healing protocol". Sometimes acid reflux improves whether or not you take steps to reduce risk factors. I used to have a lot of discomfort from it at night some years ago and took medication for a short time. More recently it's only occasionally that I have mild symptoms, and I'm not taking any meds, herbs or special precautions. Sometimes conditions get better on their own and whatever interventions you were trying wrongly get the credit. Comments (20)My grandfather was a herbalist, not professional,, but very knowledgeable. For stomach problems - and sleeplessness a few drops of tincture of Valerian on a cube of sugar was the remedy - and believe or not, I used it sometime now for restlessness and it works and taste just the way it did whenI was a kid. Hot compresses of vinegar water around the neck, covered with something water-proof and then a wrap of a wool-scarf was the remedy for sore throat - I hated it! That wool-scarf got so scratchy by and by! Chamomile or peppermint tea for stomach upsets. Hydrogen peroxide as first aid for cuts and scrapes - still my first disinfectant in the medicine cabinet. Comfort food; farina (cream of wheat) lightly toasted, thinned with broth (Angebrannte Griess Suppe) I still have it at times. My sister acquired pin-worms once and was treated with enemas of milk and garlic. There was a cough syrup made of hollowed out carrots, filled with brown crystal sugar, the juice was very nice, the winter cod-liver oil not so much. Spring-time Grandfather would gather the whole family for a purifying tea to thin the blood, even my father got caught in that one several times....See MoreHome remedies... can be good.
Comments (9)It just seems to me that if the stomach acid breaks down the good bacteria, Joann23456, it would also break down all of the other useful things that people take----aspirin, all medications, etc.-----and the benefits would be lost. Yet, we know that medications DO help people and THEY LEAVE THE STOMACH. Doctors don't know it all-------they never have------they cannot tell you WHY certain bodily functions happen---just that they do. Only GOD knows the WHY. ****************************** Here's another tip that may or may not help someone-----my DH has a terrible time with acid reflux & heartburn, etc. I read on another forum that a mixture of skim milk, tofu, and something else (sorry) might help. Well, after mentioning it to him (I didn't mention the tofu--lol) he actually drank some regular milk that night---didn't have his usual problem with his stomach!!!!!! He's been drinking milk now, especially when he eats spicy stuff----and it has greatly helped his problem. I notice he hasn't been eating as many of the antacids. So... **************************************************** Breast cancer and deodorants--------has anyone been keeping up with this???? Several years ago a co-worker told me that she did not use regular deodorants because they've been linked to breast cancer. So, I used the "all natural" deodorants from my local Wal-mart for a while, then eventually went back to my other ones. Now------fast forward----a few DAYS ago a researcher has come out to say that he's found a link between breast cancer and deodorant. Some people use baking soda, there's other natural products on the market. PS Deodorant has aluminum in it. Hasn't this been linked with Alzheimers????...See MoreAcid Reflux/Heartburn; symptoms and remedies? (long)
Comments (47)Wow, I was searching for something else and came across this old thread. Since I have had some experience I thought I'd drop in with my own particular solution... I think it will work for most people though. Drink "green juice"... its simply concentrated fresh veggies. Mainly greens like lettuce, spinach, dandelions, beet greens, etc stuff like that run through a juicer... NOT a Blender, blenders leave all the roughage in, which dilutes the flavors and bulks up and is just plain too much extra to drink. Root veggies are okay to add as well, especially carrots and beets. Cabbage related veggies are too strong flavor-wise and will render the juice very unpleasant to drink, mushroom will make it taste like the forest floor. Fruits will make it more palatable but do add a lot of sugar in the form of fructose its so best to limit that. Drink just a cup of green juice at least once a day and within a week or two, no more acid attacks, ever! If I fall off the wagon (stop drinking it daily) in about a month the night-time acid issues resume. I've been doing this for almost twenty years now, the pattern/connection is un-mistakeable. Additional benefits from drinking green juice... sleep more soundly, blood pressure normalized after the first several months, bowle movements are quite regular within 20 minutes after having my morning green juice. And I'm not the only one... my wife and several friends also drink green juice with similar results. My conclusion is we (meaning everyone) just aren't getting enough of what freshly consumed vegetables supply (likely high concentrations of minerals in highly absorbable forms) into our diets... so fix the diet and you'll likely fix a number of physical health issues. Its not a magic potion, its not a drug to instantly treat symptoms.... Rather green juice is real nutrition and so it will take time to work, it needs to be a lifestyle change, if you treat it as a fad it will have no lasting results. Peace, I'm outta here......See MoreChi
