Exterior Paint Dilemma on '70s Tract home
Comments (35)@katinparadise the paint is finally complete! So below is the paint finish, but I still need a new door and lights. To be totally honest, I feel the body is a bit too light and the trim is way too white. I feel it should be somewhat creamier. But anything is better than what I had before. I’m thinking if I should have the trim repainted to not look so stark white... As for the door, I’m leaning on a steel foot that looks like wood. My painter suggests not getting anything dark as he says “will look like a big square dark thing”. What do you think? The carriage look is nice; not sure if I can pull it off since it’s wide for two cars. And I just went shopping for the light.... I think I’ll have a better idea once I install the door. thoughts?...See MoreNeed help revitalizing a '70s contemporary exterior
Comments (6)Really nice house and lot. Would want all downstairs windows to actually open and a front porch instead of a front deck. You could add a flat or nearly flat roof over your existing deck or extend that forward facing gable and put an upstairs bonus room with windows that actually open over an actual front porch. Liking the large older trees in the front yard but you might consider removing the one closest to the front of the house since its base is leaning toward the house. Would want the gutter/downspouts to visually disappear as much as possible, even on the side and back. Instead of (or in addition to) a lot of angled steps in the back of the house, have you considered building a deck that wraps around the house over the garage doors so you have the option of less steps to reach a landing in the yard above the retaining wall....See More70's Brick Ranch - Exterior Help
Comments (2)If you will be redoing everything then color options are wide open. What colors do you like? We used Romabio limewash on our brick.. so easy and affordable. Highly recommend the product if you are going in that direction....See MoreExterior update on 70s colonial half brick- HELP!
Comments (8)Really nice house. Would not paint the brick -- not ever. You might consider removing the two trees leaning toward the house before a storm --wind storm and/or ice storm or even lightening -- puts them on your roof. While you already have room to create a portico, if you remove the two trees, you'll have plenty of room for a larger front porch -- either one will look good with forward facing gable with its ridge point the same height as the gable on the left side and it would be a good idea to make a decision on that before replacing the roof. If you've been considering enlarging the house to extend the upstairs over the single story section on the left end of the ground floor and/or adding a porch or room elsewhere, Decide that before redoing the roofing. If a new roof is needed, make that your priority. medium/dark gray shingles are as close to neutral as shingles get. Newer metal roofs now have an extended warranty. Talk with your homeowner insurance company and see if they can give you any information about how metal roofs age in your geographic location that might help you make your decision. Probably would not choose metal myself with that style house -- they tend to look better with steep roofs. Siding color you have is neutral and works well with the brick so if it doesn't need changing, wouldn't make that a priority....See Morekatinparadise
