I think it looks great in your entry. Might not be enough light for over dining table. Wattage needs to be considered as well as size.

A good rule of thumb is to make sure your chandelier is one-half to three-quarters the width of your table

sumac: I don't know what the wattage is but there's recessed lighting in the dining room and kitchen with dimmers. Do you think that makes a difference?

Most tables are 48 inches wide (not your length). So then the light should at least be 24 inches wide. But with you also having recessed lighting your 17 inch light should give you enough light

yes it is too big for there , get something similar but smaller and use that one over the table. you should have enough light with the recess lights compensating .

Yes, I've been searching the web for a gold leaf chandelier chain, looks like it going to be difficult.

Hopefully whom ever put in the your hall light left extra wire in the electric box in the ceiling and you will not have to rewire. Look around your Lowes or Home depot they might have some gold chain. Even though gold is coming back in style, sometimes it is still hard to find and so many different colors of gold. Or if your husband installed it maybe he saved the remaining chain. You picked a nice fixture. Look for something that complements it. From your pictures the foyer looks open to the living area. I would just go smaller. The shadows Sam is talking about, is the shadow the light casts on the ceiling and walls when it is on. Yours is fine. I seen one light shadow that looked like a boob on the ceiling. lol Oh yes I am for easy maintenance and comfort.

IMO that lighting fixture is too big and not suited for an entry way light, and it's not big enough and not suited for a dining room chandelier. I would sell it on ebay, take that money and get someone with some decorating taste to help you pick out two appropriate fixtures.

Pondering my circumstances further (re: buying a foyer ceiling light that is too large). Since my mistakes have cost me big bucks and a very irritable husband, I've come to the end conclusion that there are zero customary consistencies in chandeliers! Hence, the following:
