Artificial turf grass brand recommendations

We live in South Georgia and have a new pool. i want to put a small area (10x15) of synthetic grass between the pool and the house. No one down here uses artificial turf, so I’m looking for brand and grass recommendations. (No stores carry it so i can’t go have a look in person.) I have st. Augustine in my front yard, which is adjacent to the pool. We have centipede in the back. I’m just looking for something that looks pretty real and holds up to kids, chairs, etc.

The turf will be on the right side of the brick patio between the pool and the chimney part of the house. I want to do a flower bed next to the house. The fence on the right is covered in confederate jasmine.

I don't have brand recommendations for you but just a warning: I wouldn't expect any artificial grass to hold up well to chairs and table legs .... any hard weight setting on it for an extended length of time. It is essentially made of plastic, like many carpets, and will hold depressions for a long time. Just like when you move your couch, you're going to see where its legs sat for weeks or forever.

Even Lowe's and Home Depot carry artificial turf in various grades so you might start there. Also, Amazon ... check and see as you may be able to get samples from some vendors. Too, take your quest to Google Shopping and you can probably find vendors who will provide samples. There may/will probably be a fee for a sample. Many of the expensive grades are pretty good looking.

Thanks. I did order some samples from one of the companies who sells through Home Depot. Hopefully we will find something we like. Good point about the depressions. It’s such a small area and not the main sitting spot, so we may not even put any chairs on there. We actually have a covered pavilion to the left of the picture so I imagine we will be there mostly!

Luckily for me the sprinklers are already installed from the prior grass we had so reconfiguring a few to water down the turf every once in a while is simple. We are looking at Global Synturf right now which has a W Blade 80 turf that is suppose to be 15 degrees cooler. We did look at Tiger which seems very similar. Also looked at Grasstex (which I love but its the most expensive and the one that holds the most heat), Purchase Green and one more I can't remember the name of that was similar to Tiger. We are looking at using Zeolite for the infill instead of sand to help with the heat and odors for pets, etc. Rubber bits are used for sports field and now there are other options beside those nasty little things for fields too. It's a huge decision and I hope we don't make a mistake installing this stuff. It seems like the installers here can't get it down fast enough to keep up the demand for turf right now.

Hi H202- I just found this post and see it's 4 years old, but we also live in DC and have the same exact predicament you did! Did you end up figuring it out? We would love to know if so. We are currently looking for driveable / parkable artificial turf for part-time parking and part-time playing w our toddlers. Please forgive the hijack Rocky! Mtn, about the ivy Screens...I bought mine on eBay after a little research. These were easy for me to install with horse shoe nails. I have to say though that for the first few months they looked too shiny. That dims with time. Do not open boxes indoors , the toxic smell was horrible. Here they are along the ugly fence before grass,plants and outdoor lighting. These are expandable so if you want fuller don't go as wide as I did or leave as much of a gap. Some people sprig faux ivy pieces here and there in gaps while real foliage grows to fill in more of the space. My plants are small right now so the gaps are funky. I was lucky to score a few Bauhinia Galpinii (Red Orchid tree/bush/climbers that will grow on each end. Here is the link. The company can be linked from there. Is this for an overseeding or for a renovation? KBG is hard to overseed with because germination takes 2-3 weeks or more and meantime the existing grass needs cutting. If you already have KBG, you generally do not need to overseed because KBG spreads. You would fertilize to promote the existing grass to grow and spread. If you are renovating, starting with a blank slate, you are running out of time before frost. Renovations should have been seeded in mid to late August.

Hello Ashlee, Did you find a brand you like? I'm looking for a small piece of artificial grass to use as an outdoor pet bathroom area while our dog recovers from surgery. Looking for something that holds up, drains well, doesn't hold odors, and is non-toxic. Thanks,

If you order through Home Depot, they should have installers. For a small piece 10x15 make sure it is still in a roll and not folded up in small sections for shipping convenience otherwise you will never be able to remove the creases.
