Comments (7)Going with an impressive building rather than a snowy scene. Some years ago we took a trip to France with plans to visit various relatives of my wife that we had never met. On one of the stops on the trip we stayed with a cousin of her mother, in this place, in northern France:...See MoreI'll Show You Mine if You Show Me Yours Mon Mar 25

Comments (14)Everyone has seen a Praying Mantis before, but at our house I saw the somewhat rare "Dancing Mantis" A neighbor had been making a burn pile all summer, and this weekend he had some guys finish it off, but he is not one to take half measures. He had them dig a hole 20 feet by 25 feet that was 20 feet deep. They pushed all the logs and branches into the hole with a bulldozer, and set it alight. He said at one point there were flames reaching about 100 feet into the air. I went over around noon and the fire wasn't reaching out of the pit, but the heat near the edge was nearly overwhelming. It occurred to me that if the with the heat and the steepness of the walls of the pit that if someone were to have fallen in, they would not have been able to get out before being killed. I brought over one branch that was maybe 6" in diameter and 12 feet long to push into the pit, and as it slid into the hole it got hung up on the edge. I was really nervous that the edge of the pit might collapse so I used a stout branch to push it the rest of the way....See MoreI'll Show You Mine If You Show Me Yours - Mon 6/4
Comments (12)I've got a few pictures to show. Saturday was a big day for us! We participated in the annual Ride for Dad motorcycle charity run to raise money for prostate cancer. Hubby was the Honourary Ride Captain. He and I both got to ride in the front pack. There were over 550 motorcycles, of all shapes and sizes. Crotch rockets, Harleys, Trikes, sports bikes, cruisers, etc. For the parade, we were escorted thru the city by the police, with sirens bleeping and lights flashing. Going thru all the red lights with the red-light cameras off was a blast. People were pulled over to the side to watch and out on the streets. This was my driver and his bike. A gorgeous 1700 Kawasaki and it was so comfortable! Thanks Ken!!! This was where the parade ended where we could use the facilities and water and apple chips were provided. We then carried on for a few more hours thru the countryside with pit stops and a poker run. It finished at the police association where there was a barbecue and announcements of the winners of the poker run, 50/50 draw the the highest pledges. The highest pledge raised was $4400 and his prize was a set of Harley exhaust pipes worth $1,000. This is Gloria's bike. We've really struck up a friendship. She was riding behind me and said I was having so much fun in the parade waving to everyone. She was thrilled that we enjoyed it so much....See More- 8 years ago
