Comments (10)Stacey, there are tours & I did go through it. Surprisingly, the rooms are smaller than they appear on TV but it's a gorgeous place. The current countess is a great writer who wrote "Lady Almina & the real Downton Abbey" which was a fascinating true story about that countess who was the illegitimate daughter of a Rothschild. She set up a hospital there during WWI. Got that one on my Kindle. I got her 2nd book about the next real countess at Highclere & it's signed. The count is one who discovered King Tut's tomb & there's a display of some of his treasures....See MoreI'll Show You Mine if You Show Me Yours Mon Sept 1

A neighbor had been making a burn pile all summer, and this weekend he had some guys finish it off, but he is not one to take half measures. He had them dig a hole 20 feet by 25 feet that was 20 feet deep. They pushed all the logs and branches into the hole with a bulldozer, and set it alight. He said at one point there were flames reaching about 100 feet into the air.I went over around noon and the fire wasn't reaching out of the pit, but the heat near the edge was nearly overwhelming. It occurred to me that if the with the heat and the steepness of the walls of the pit that if someone were to have fallen in, they would not have been able to get out before being killed.
I brought over one branch that was maybe 6" in diameter and 12 feet long to push into the pit, and as it slid into the hole it got hung up on the edge. I was really nervous that the edge of the pit might collapse so I used a stout branch to push it the rest of the way.
