Comments (15)Dedtired - I'm happy to report we had the same weather on our side of the Delaware River. We had a late start this year to cleaning off our screened porch. It does get amazingly dusty over the winter and we had company coming on Saturday afternoon for a crab feast. Friday was beautiful - no humidity, no heat so we finally took the furniture off the porch, hosed it down and it air dried quickly. Everything was back in place by noon. Saturday was even better. DH rigged our smoker to accommodate the steamer so we were able to cook everything outside. DS bought the crabs in S. Philly, DD hit the Reading Terminal for prosciutto, melons, Tiramisu and cannolis. It was a glorious day. The kids brought their dogs to play and we tried to get them to join us in the pool but only our lab came in. If only we had more summer days like these....See MoreSummer Solstice Stonehenge
Comments (9)Ann the only time I visited Stonehenge was way back in about 1964 while I was at College and three friends asked me to join them for a 'over night' visit. We drove down in a rattly old van owned by a student and waited for the non-arrival of the sun. In those days the stones were surrounded by barbed wire over which we had to climb and I remember the boys helping an elderly 'professor' type (big black hat and cloak) to scale the heights. We were the only people there and the whole experience I found to be underwhelming. A mixture of tiredness, hunger and the fear of the likely trouble I would be in should the authorities notice my absence from College didn't help the mood. Do any RP'ers have midsummer festivals in their various countries? Are there pop festivals that echo the old Woodstock or is everything very tame and organised? Here the huge Glastonbury Festival is coming up where tens of thousands of people gather at Worthy Farm deep in Somerset to hear am amazing variety of bands and solo artists . . . Dolly Parton will be a headline act and claims that knee-deep mud (if it rains) will not faze her! My DD tells me that 'Glasto' has been running so long it is now full of 'old people' "Some as ancient as you and Dad, they even take their grandchildren." Comments (1)It feels like yesterday that we got done with all deciduous/conifers repotting marathon. Now you are telling me we have to start all over again for tropicals - lol. Have all the gritty components ready. Need to make some more 511 too. Problem is that we had been having such cool weather so far that tropicals seem reluctant to burst into growth mode this season. 5 years agolast modified: 5 years agoOK, 2 years in the ground, first thing I did, a welcome feature for my visitors.
Pinus sylvestris 'Glauca Nana' although it looks green now (not Glauca) because I sprayed it with horticultural oil (caterpillar problem). I love the little tree very much but it has little non-obvious problems that I posted about in the past. Wish me luck nursing it to full health.
Other pics will have to wait for 3 years or so until things mature a bit :-)
