Vee, in Perth the recent weather has been terrible! Raging storms have kept me indoors, which is rare for me. I usually manage to go for a walk around the shops most days.
I can't say that I miss the British summer weather but I do miss the cosiness of my last flat in the winter. I rented it from the local Council and it was in a centrally heated building, the corridors had radiators that warmed the whole place.
I have a reverse cycle air-conditioner here but it doesn't seem to give the same depth of silent warmth.
I look at the weather map, which shows lovely higher temps in the North of the State and sigh! "Oh, to be in Broome now that Winter's here!"
In the US, the Snowbirds go South to Florida etc. and here the Grey Nomads drive their RVs and caravans Northwards.

It has been a pretty good summer here so far: enough sun to keep people relatively happy and enough rain to keep the flowers and grass growing. Iceland is always windy, but even that has not been bothersome this summer. Temperatures have not exactly soared, but neither has it been chilly. A pretty balanced summer, I'd say.

After a relatively rainy spring, summer is finally here in New England. It's been in the mid- to high 80's and sunny, but without a lot of humidity so far (at least in Connecticut) which is lovely. Come August I'll be hiding in the house with the AC on.

We sat outside talking with our neighbors Saturday night, and it wasn't fully dark until almost 9:30. We were reminiscing about trying to get our kids (now all teens and adults) into the house and into bed when it was still light out - nearly impossible!

Charleston has the reputation for being humid during summers. Until the last 2 days, the heat and humidity were not too bad. The month to stay away from the Low Country is truly August. The high humidity makes a half hour walk torture and the result is often dizziness and dehydration. When I relocated here, I had to get used to that. I must say, however, that the tropical flowers throughout the city gardens and parks make it worthwhile.

Mary, I think Charleston is the prettiest city in the U.S.

Here in Louisville, we have just experienced our eighth day straight of temps above 90. I took my walk this morning at 8:30, and it was already pretty warm. We are spoiled to a world of air conditioning--house, car, malls, shops, restaurants. The utility company sends out regular letters asking customers' permission for them to turn off some electricity randomly for a short time each day. I don't know anyone who lets them do this. They promise a rebate of something like a whopping $5.00, and that's for the season, not by the month.

I am sorry to say that I was disappointed with Stonehenge. I didn't feel any vibes and just thought it was like a broken clock.
I am quite sensitive to atmosphere but that place had nothing for me.
We have a replica of Stonehenge in Western Australia at Esperance. I haven't been to see it but apparently there are a lot of them in the world.
It is 3degsC this morning. Don't ever think that it is always hot in Australia! I thought it was before I came here but it can get really cold in places and snow falls in the mountains.
Anyone for skiing?

Ann the only time I visited Stonehenge was way back in about 1964 while I was at College and three friends asked me to join them for a 'over night' visit. We drove down in a rattly old van owned by a student and waited for the non-arrival of the sun. In those days the stones were surrounded by barbed wire over which we had to climb and I remember the boys helping an elderly 'professor' type (big black hat and cloak) to scale the heights. We were the only people there and the whole experience I found to be underwhelming. A mixture of tiredness, hunger and the fear of the likely trouble I would be in should the authorities notice my absence from College didn't help the mood.

Do any RP'ers have midsummer festivals in their various countries? Are there pop festivals that echo the old Woodstock or is everything very tame and organised?
Here the huge Glastonbury Festival is coming up where tens of thousands of people gather at Worthy Farm deep in Somerset to hear am amazing variety of bands and solo artists . . . Dolly Parton will be a headline act and claims that knee-deep mud (if it rains) will not faze her!
My DD tells me that 'Glasto' has been running so long it is now full of 'old people' "Some as ancient as you and Dad, they even take their grandchildren." There is just no answer to that. ;-(

I enjoyed the book Stonehenge but I'm not much into vibes and only remember that the site was smaller than I had imagined. I found Glastonbury the town underwhelming with its beads and crystals shops, but the abbey ruins were marvelous.

Vee...I can't think of any midsummer festivals here but we are a bit short on Druids!
We do have a lot of "Christmas in July" dinner events though.
There was a heavy snowfall in the mountains last night which has the snow bunnies hopping! We had a low of 2degsC last night so I am sitting under a roaring A/C!
