My DH used to say that the day after the Solstice: "Well, the days are getting shorter." LOL

It was a gorgeous day. I did lots of mowing, and when I could do no more I sat on the porch with a big glass of ice water and a book. I usually go directly from the garden to the shower, but it was so beautiful out, with a nice breeze. Plus I wanted to admire the yard. Between my mowing and my son's weed-whacking, the property looks lovely.

Yes, the sad thing is that it starts moving the other way now and it seems like summer just got here. Our evenings don't even begin to warm up for awhile yet. Love Oregon! But miss balmy nights.

The best season of the year is always welcome. Did include an afternoon of relaxing beach time.

Summer evenings like last night are so delightful and somewhat rare around here. It was such a treat to be outside (for me, on my screened porch) until late enjoying nice breezes. Woke to a lovely Sunday morning, too, although today is predicted to be a bit hotter. I noticed the lightning bugs were out last night, too.

Won't be long before suffocating humidity and mosquitoes keep people inside in the evening. Maybe we'll get a break this year.

We've had fog in the mornings three days in a row, then sun by noon. Yesterday we had tornado warnings, but only got some strong thunderstorms here. DH insists that our big lake 'protects' us. For whatever reason, we only get damaging winds about every 20 years. Our creek is really running high and fast this morning! Fortunately, we are not far from its' origin.

I am always sorry to see the days start to grow shorter. Nice to have a beautifully green lawn after so much rain!

Dedtired - I'm happy to report we had the same weather on our side of the Delaware River.

We had a late start this year to cleaning off our screened porch. It does get amazingly dusty over the winter and we had company coming on Saturday afternoon for a crab feast. Friday was beautiful - no humidity, no heat so we finally took the furniture off the porch, hosed it down and it air dried quickly. Everything was back in place by noon.

Saturday was even better. DH rigged our smoker to accommodate the steamer so we were able to cook everything outside. DS bought the crabs in S. Philly, DD hit the Reading Terminal for prosciutto, melons, Tiramisu and cannolis.

It was a glorious day. The kids brought their dogs to play and we tried to get them to join us in the pool but only our lab came in.

If only we had more summer days like these.

It was hot and very humid here yesterday and today. It's cooling down some in the evenings though. I love long summer evenings.

Summer Solstice? Look where I was a couple of weeks ago. Someplace that's been on my Bucket List for a long time. Yes, I know I don't look thrilled. I was tired. :)

The crowds were HUGE when I was there. I can't imagine how many people were there this weekend.

Living this far north..makes for even longer nights...sitting in my sitting room, with the sun setting over my shoulder..it's dusk at 9:30 pm...still lots of color in the sky...

littlebug -- Did Stonehenge look 'natural'? The National Trust and it's American 'cousin', The Royal Oak Society, spent a ton relocating a highway that detracted from the open feel of the site. I wonder if that worked. Could you see the Chalk Horse on the downs?

Terri, how is the new house coming along? All settled in yet??

Maire, your evening sounds wonderful and delicious. I would love to have a backyard pool. I grew up with one and it was delightful.

I can imagine that Stonehenge is mighty touristy. It would be amazing to see and I wonder how it was built. My niece is in Jordan now and sent pictures of equally mind-boggling ancient sites. Can't imagine how they were ever built without a crane!

Terry, that sunset is lovely. It's nice to be on the western end of a time zone because the sun goes down so late. I remember being in Cincinnati in June and it was 10 pm before it got dark.

Today is still reasonably nice weather after a great weekend. Mostly sunny and the humidity is not so bad. It is saving me lots to not run the AC.

I miss being a little kid in summer.

Just finished the main body of my "purrrrrple" (if you have ACE commercials on in your area..lol) accent wall in my sitting room..it is also the headboard wall in my bedroom.
It makes me so happy...(just have to head to mom's to grab my edging brush to cut in the ceiling and floor trim areas.)

I've been painting over there too...

Told hubby yesterday..it'll be nice to just sit and enjoy for a bit...but that won't be for a while..

Well I guess it looked natural. It looked like it had been there forever. And I guess it has been there thousands of years. And, yes, it was as non commercial as they could probably have made it. You cannot see the site from the visitor center or the parking lots. It's about a mile away. You have to ride the trolley or walk up to the actual site. There were sheep grazing in a pasture near it. ðÂÂÂ

I'm very happy for you, Terri! I bet it looks great. So much fun to do what you want to your house, isn't it??

Littlebug, I envy you your trip there. I've always wanted to see it. Maybe someday.......... :)
