Here is chatter from another board, and no one knows about chestnuts planted in Alberta.

Does anybody here know?

Interestingly though, I read a paper a couple years ago on the cold hardiness of american chestnut, apparently some seeds from the south were planted in south-central Alberta just south of the boreal forests, and they didn't just survive but they thrived and due to their isolation, haven't yet been effected by blight, at the time of the paper they were becoming a canopy tree and had been producing seed crops for years, apparently there were a number of seedlings that sprouted there too. Â .

"Are you sure it was Alberta? That would be big news. I didn't find anything under multiple searches. I read many of the cold tolerance papers but don't remember Alberta.

Does this ring a bell for any one?
