Kinda OT: what to do under new deck?
Comments (8)Unless your Terminix guy is OK with crawling under your deck, don't put any wood product under there. What direction does the deck face and how deep is it from the edge to your foundation? I would hit it with brush killer, the stuff that lasts and then check with the 'deck' forum for recommendations. Do you plan to lattice from the deck to the ground to keep the cats/possums/skunks/raccoons out from under it? Below my deck at the other house is just plain dirt graded to make rain drips flow away from the foundation but the edges are latticed. Any flower/shrub border you have up to the lattice, you'll have to be vigilent to keep tree seeds from gaining a foothold. They like to start in those spots for the moist soil with no other tree root competition..then hard to get out. We used the cedar colored vinyl/plastic lattice. What I did last time we redid the deck was to put 2-3 rows of boards parallel running along the house wall and attach the boards with galvanized screws. That way, should there be a termite issue or a water rot issue you can access the areas for termite treatment/sill replacement without having to take up your entire deck flooring....See MoreColor and installation of lattice under deck
Comments (5)To Kanegaro... In searching for lattice color info I came across your post. It was a repeat of my question! OUR back deck is also Azek 'brownstone'... which we love, by the way. Started using it at the front of our newly built house five years ago when Azek was called Procel and it's held up beautifully. OUR rails are also white (balusters too) and house siding a creamy yellow. We were at the Azek supplier over the weekend for rim joist covers ( 1/2" x 12" x 12' = $50 which might be an option for you.. except for ventilation) Azek does not manufacture lattice... so my search goes on. It will not be white, however. Please excuse any posting errors. I'm an oldtimer with nil computer experience... but enjoying our deck, and hope you do as well ~ Joyce...See MoreStove replacement- what do I do about the hood/micro?
Comments (43)How big a deal is it to remove the upper cabinet and go with the Big Chill Classic? I don't know. I need to find out: 1. If I can run the gas line 2. If I can remove the existing microwave And make sure I can take care of all the other practicalities like fixing the backsplash, etc. I'm still not in FL, just in the planning stages of this. When I get down there this year, I'm having a contractor come over to discuss this project, the built-ins I want to add to other rooms, and the installation of an instant hot... so I will get more info then. Hopefully, the Big Chill Classic in the gas version will be doable. Since we already have the underground propane tank, I'm hoping it will be easy... but I don't know what the code requirements are or whether it can get to this wall since there's a room above it and it is pretty far from the other gas hookups and it is not an exterior wall......See MoreWhat do I do with these shutters and panels under the windows?
Comments (4)If you plan on redoing the flower beds, then I'd remove the panel and the long shutters. you may like it without the panels or the shutters. Those shrubs have to go though. they're scraggly and do nothing for your yard. I like the idea of flower boxes. not big on the gray. here's why I do like black this is how those shrubs are supposed to look! this is beautiful w/the black shutters, white trim, and I also like this style door. consider replacing your hand rail with something like above. a complete redo w/painted brick and wood shutters/posts. these color combos might work. red for your door, Amherst for the shutters, white for trim. or,,,...See MoreJillian Caesar
