So... what color of paint will make this yellow carpet tolerable?
Comments (128)First of all, I'm mainly a lurker in this forum too :-) But I've SO ENJOYED your thread! The gold carpet is definitely a challenge, and it's been interesting to read what everyone has suggested. I think you can find a way to make it work, it's just a matter of selecting the useful comments and trying not to get to discouraged by the ones that aren't so helpful. This is a public place, and everyone wants to play (so to speak). I find the asymmetry of your quilt to be the most challenging part of the whole thing. I think I would use it like a throw, lay it across the bed, rather than like a bedspread. But, that's me, as I said it's not really my style. It's a beautiful quilt though, and I think it's very sweet that you want to use it and enjoy it :-) Your color combo, red and gold, is unconventional but I'm sure that it can work. Being rather design-challenged myself, I've been following along because I am curious how people will advise you. I searched on Houzz for "red and gold bedroom Pottery Barn" -- the design combos are there! I've attached a picture of a room that I think could be an inspiration room for you. It would be nice to see pictures of rooms you like, which would probably help everyone kind of focus all their designing energies. Please stay, I want to see how this turns out. I am also living in a "first home" (moved in 12 years ago) and it's not beautiful or full of character, or even very large LOL. But it's a lot nicer than it would be if I had never found this wonderful collection of forums on GW. Melanie...See MoreFluff post: what color or colors is your bedspread or bedspreads?
Comments (56)This one I made for the bed using a combination of sheets, satin ribbon and some very pretty but somewhat expensive printed quilting fabric. The ribbon conceals the raw edges so I could make the most of the patterned material - the shams and horizontal rows for a queen size took nearly the full yard and then I made a decorative throw pillow with pleating to hide that the print material used was the scraps, raw edges also concealed with ribbon. Leftover ribbon as the ties (not shown) at one end and internally keep the duvet inside from moving around/sliding out and bunching. Our sheets are blue solid, teal solid, and gray solid - all 400tc and under $45 a set at target. I have a white and gray comforter left over from when we staged our previous home also, however...the dog sleeps with us and I could have told the stager the futility in buying any soft home decor/furnishing that is mostly white when one has a dog. Even with washing. I have tennis balls that go in the dryer with it to keep the poly fill from being lumpy. Eventually it will become the dog’s comforter. The kids room has two bunk beds (for up to 4 kids) and solid blue comforters, sheets are blue solid, blue stripe, and blue dots (I bought a variety of patterns in a dozen sets since sheets and kids both have to get washed really often and sometimes you have to throw out a set of sheets.)...See Morewhat bedspread would like best
Comments (2)How about folding the present spread down so it just is covering the bottom third of your bed revealing a solid sheet or coverlet on most of the bed. That way it would be less busy but still supply pattern....See MoreWhat color walls would you choose with this bedspread?
Comments (45)Ok here’s some teal paint samples. While I love the gold in the bedroom, teal has always been one of my favorites. I’ve decided that the gold color will be in my kitchen/dining area. I looked for bedding for a long time, trying to find something that I liked enough and something that would hide cat hair. Which this duvet does really well cause it’s busy. @BeverlyFLADeziner out of curiosity, what would suggest for bedding that would compliment my headboard/furnishings?...See Morehummingalong2
