Need advice: Ideas for table/chairs for my kitchen?

I’m trying to replace current table and chairs from my kitchen as I feel they make my red oak cabinet kitchen look even older. This is not a big kitchen so I’m thinking 36” diameter round table. Any ideas if I can put table/chairs to look a bit more clean/modern (not too modern)? Here are my options but I’m open for any other!

36" is awfully small. I don't think I would want to sit more than 2 people at it.

I agree 36" is too small for a table in this space unless you just want to drink coffee there, no meals. We also just moved into a new to us house and brought in my husbands mothers old 42" oak table. It works perfect in our spot but we really can't use normal sized placemats because of the tight circle. I wouldn't even consider a smaller table for this space. It really needs to be centered under the light. Ours isn't in this picture but we were just getting things in place while moving. It is centered now

Thanks for all your advice. I'm so glad that I didn't just rush in and start this. From the sounds of it, I WOULD HAVE ruined them . . . :^0 . . . OMGosh! I need to run all this by DH. He's been encouraging me to call up and order a set I like that I saw in Phoenix Home & Garden magazine spread. I can't imagine ordering anything that big and expensive sight unseen, though. Hmmmmmm, there may be a weekend trip to Scottsdale in the offing ;^) In the mean time, I need to decide whether I want to paint the set a brown first and them give the Gel Stain a go or just leave it as is until I get a new set. BTW, I haven't looked into having it professionally stripped and redone. I probably should. I can't imagine a red or blue table in our dining room, though. I'll have to think about that one.

Julie, Here are the pics of dining room visible from the living room. Need to add drapes here as well. The art can change (if required, but prefer to make it work) and chandelier HAS to change, but would like to keep everything else. I know the rug is small, but it's comfortable and doesn't bother me (I trained my mind because I have no choice lol), so don't want to change it. Atleast for now. Would the Kravet fabric I posted above work in the dining room? Thank you.

We are seeing two different kitchens. So is the first picture of the new home and the later one above the old home that you're leaving?

The tulip tables are pretty but seem a bit modern for the space. What do you think of this X table from Pier 1? I have it in the espresso in my breakfast room with a 42" top and it's large enough for 4 but the glass top doesn't take up a lot of visual space.
