Why, why, why can't I......
Comments (30)Let me just echo what melsouth said above. I was quoted an upcharge by one cabinet maker for painted white, but in our current new house the price was the same for stained or painted white from a different cabinetmaker. Perhaps you can get an estimate from another shop. It also bothers me that your cabinet maker is trying to discourage you from using white since he prefers stained. He should NOT be doing that. In a previous home, I let myself be pressured to do some things by the cabinet maker and always regretted those choices since I really preferred other things, but felt I had to go with his recommendations. As others have said, you're stronger than you even realize after sustaining the loss of your husband. It's natural to struggle with decisions following that...and sometimes I've found just getting a bit older can make decision making (particularly so many at the same time) more likely to be overwhelming. Just take them one at a time, and it will get done. My sincere sympathy over your loss, and I hope you'll still find the joy in each new day you have. Regarding appliances--if YOU like white cabinets and choose that, you can go with either white or stainless. With cherry, IMHO stainless would look best. We went with stainless in this house with white cabinets because I didn't care for the appearance of big white refrigerators. But we chose the stainless look frig that doesn't show fingerprints. I've found that the stainless undermount sink I thought I'd hate, is actually less work than my previous white one. As with so many things, in the long run, it will work out. Just take it one step at a time. Keep us posted. You have so many friends here ready to help you....See MoreFirst Draft Floor Plans Comments Welcome!
Comments (58)accessible bathroom Good point. Anything other than door width and bars on bath wall? You don't need the bars now but just blocking for a just in case. Also you will need a turning radius of 60" so a person in a wheelchair can easily turn around. That of course is a worst case scenario. In reality, someone will more likely need a walker at some point. shared wall with the adjacent bedroom Always a problem. I may Green Glue it, but flanking transmission will always short-circuit it. And buyers don't give a hoot for what they can't see. As long as the kiddos don't come back at the same time. is the kitchen final? The prep sink on the end of the island might need work. mrs. worthy suggests triple compartment sink with two taps Tell Mrs Worthy to consider the Stages 45 Kohler instead. Or something similar. That would be much better for resale than a triple sink that most dislike. What I still don't like is that the kitchen will be a walkway through to the powder room, etc. ... I don't see away around that. Maybe a problem for parties, which we have never had. Buyers may not have your keen eye! Probably not. :) Powder room door swing means you have to completely close the door to get to the toilet. Good eye! Thank you. black garage doors Most modernist/brutalist homes I've been looking at don't hide their garages. That makes sense. My thoughts weren't to hide them because they'd still be darker than the main areas of the house, but was wondering how it would look with a darker stone on the front entry area and the area to the right. Forgot to mention: Current floor heights are 10 (1st) and 9 (2nd) I've asked the architects to research 11-12 and 10. I find 10' give a good sense of height without being overwhelmingly like a hotel. However if you were to do something like Janni is doing with her ceilings, I could see raising yours to account for the trusses....See MoreWhy would I want to comment before reading the responses?
Comments (23)@User...you are correct...Spike ran That (The?) Homesite...which was the predecessor to the GardenWeb. I wasn‘t talking about cutting and pasting links. I was discussing hyper texting, I.e., highlighting in green (as I did your name). When you do this, Houzz sends an email, alerting you that someone either mentioned your name in a post, or was asking you a direct question. It’s why you received an email, telling you about my reply to you. You did not hyper text my name, therefor, Houzz did not alert me to your reply. I just happened to check the thread, and saw it. Hyper texting is easily done from an iPhone or iPad. I rarely use my computer. The iPad is how I interact with the internet, 99% of the time....See MoreWhy would I need to remove top drawers? Comments (11)Joe, I would trust you with my life. However...(ha...) I had Corian installed as a replacement counter in a house I owned about a million years ago now. And I could not believe the mess that created! It seemed like there was dust, random particles of unknown crap, and tiny bits of drywall debris all over the place...including in every top drawer I had and all over my silverware. If you saw you can install a countertop without making that huge of a mess, I believe you. However, you and I both know the average countertop installer out there is not nearly as attentive to details as you are. I actually took it as a good sign that they asked her to remove top drawers and cover contents - it means they're at least aware of the fact that they're going to make a mess. LOL....See MoreSuzieque
