how best to set up 2 sets of washers/dryers?
Comments (18)Thanks to all of you for the additional thought. We bought this house at the "dried in" stage, so we're sortof stuck with the way they designed the rooms. There is a huge "playspace" above the 3 car garage, but it has no windows and is in an "out of the way" space. It has sloped ceilings and a dropped floor...... you can tell it's not my favorite room. LOL. Anyhoo, I'd have loved a laundry room on the 2nd floor. But since there isn't a good spot to have it there, I'll have to just do the 2 sets on the main floor and make the kids tote their things around. Same goes for having a laundry room by our master. OUr closet isn't large enough for me to want to put it in our closet. And the only other nearby room is dh's study (which I already tried to steal for an even larger closet.... he said "NO". he, he. :o) gs~ I don't know of any downsides to having a stackable near your bedroom. You can just do the laundry when you aren't trying to sleep. :o) I'd put one in my master closet if I had the space. Wouldn't that be awesome?! Solie~ Yep, we're having 2 dishwashers in the main kitchen. There's a kitchenette on the 3rd floor for the bonus room and guest suite up there. We'll have dishwasher drawers for that one. Thanks for the thought.... we definitely have backup problems with our current house and only 1 dishwasher! rhome~ You are so funny.... needing room for beds. LOL! You know, I'm with you. I've always wanted a huge laundry room. Call me strange.... I love laundrymats (maybe because I don't have to use them anymore?.... ha, ha). I love to be in the laundryroom and hear the hum of the machines. I always have to be working or doing something with my hands it seems, so even watching a movie I have to iron or something. Thus the tv in the laundry room. I KNOW I won't be watching the ones in the other parts of the house. It's just not really my thing. Okay, I got way off topic...... Salena, I hadn't thought about w-d-d-w. Good idea. I think I'll do it that way! :o) Thanks. Allison~ Good reminder. Can you imagine me getting the room all set up and realizing the doors are all wonky and wrong, and I can't get the clothes into the next machine. Yikes. Thanks. ;o) Gardenspice~ I love machines under the counter. It would be awesome to have the extra counterspace, since it's too tight in the room for the island I hoped to have. I chose machines that are extra tall (dh and I are both fairly tall), so I know they won't fit under a counter. And my cabinetry budget is already thru the roof with 2 kitchens and umpteen baths. But I will think on that. It would give me the extra countertop that I'd love to have. Hmmmm...... Thanks everyone. I'm happy to finally get 2 sets of machines, however they are set up. Wish I could do the 2nd set by our master, and a 3rd set upstairs for the kids. But I'm not complaining about the 2 sets on main floor. It will still be a treat. :o) Just for fun..... here's the fabric for the roman blinds in that room. Cabinetry will be kindof a sage/olive with a dark glaze rubbed into the distressed wood. Machines will be red. HOpefully it won't look like Christmas in there. :o)...See MoreRecommendations for a FL Washer/Dryer Set
Comments (5)I just recently went through the same process, but my budget was bit higher, 2000-3000$ CND. I looked at models with a built-in water heater, which was very important for me. Here are a few observations. Bosch Nexx: over your budget (2300$+tax), very nice feel, many cycles, heats water consistently, quality assembly. Whirlpool Duets HT (my final choice): (1980$+tax), many cycles, built-in water heater but does not heat through all the cycles, quality of the washer assembly very high (dryer has a pretty "cheaper" feel though), washer made in Germany Whirlpool Duets Sport (8500 series): 1800$+tax, less cycles than Duets, built-in water heater, made in Mexico instead of Germany Frigidaire (higher end model): 1700$+tax, construction/quality less than Whirlpool, built-in water heater, a lot of negative comments on the durability of Frigidaire W/D Didn't look at GE, newer on the scene I think, or LG (for those prices I'd get something else). Kenmore is an option, their HE5T is Whirlpool made, available in many colours, it gets down to looks/prices What won me on the Duets HT was: the many positive reviews found everywhere, price was only slightly higher than the others, look (I have them in my hallway), and quality feel. Just look at the door hinge/latch, on the cheaper models and you'll understand. The dryer is another story, we really get ripped off on that "matching" thing, quality is not the same as the washer, door looks the same, but opening/closing feels cheaper. It feels like my 400$ dryer that I got 8 years ago. I haven't used them much yet, but I'm satisfied so far. Overall, I'd say look at what's important for you as per features, check the different floor models for quality, feel, and look (especially your GF, my BF couldn't care less!). And if matching is not important for you (I mean for your GF!), you could save a bit there, although they tend to give bigger rebates when you buy the "pair". Since it will be your first W/D kit, you might not know what you want/need, but choose carefully because a higher end model will last. I just got rid of my mom's gold/yellow washer!...See MoreBest Washer Dryer ... what's your pick?
Comments (16)Without some idea on budget there's no way to give much for suggestions on makes and models but I do have a few other thoughts: Do you need a new dryer? There's no such thing as and energy efficient dryer. They all do basically the same things: tumble clothes, heat air and vent air. There's some other differences such as some will reverse tumble, F&P has a top lead feature with the lint cup, some have a rack but as said for the most part dryers vary very little except on price and capacity. You mention wanting it dry without wrinkles. Any dryer will do that as long as you don't overload it. That's another issue to watch for is capacity. I really laugh at some of the large capacity washers being paired with a small(er) capacity dryer. If you need a dryer too, do they need to "match"? First, many don't really match that well IMO and second if you're willing to mix models you can get a very good, large capacity dryer for a lot less than the "matching" dryer. I see no need to spend $2,000.00 on a dryer when a $400.00 (or less) dryer will do and possibly even do better. Having more room in the dryer gives more room to fluff the clothes, dries faster and is less likely to wrinkle. However, you still have to get the clothes out of there quickly or they can wrinkle. Some dryers have a "wrinkle guard" setting where they'll tumble the clothes occasionally for a while to give you more time to get to it. More of a gimmick IMO. There's a wealth of information on this forum. I'd suggest reading the threads and the'll give you ideas. As I always caution people there's a lot of strong feelings expressed and some downright worship their machines and can't even consider anything else can possibly do what theirs can. But when you take it with a fistful of salt you can get a lot of ideas of what people like and don't like and see if that compares to what you like or dislike and then you can compare your budget to see what machines fall within your range of consideration. There's a lot of good machines out there. There's also a lot of rumors and misinformation. Many problems are caused by pilot error. Don't get hung up with an idea that a particular brand was good 20 years ago, it might not be as good now. And don't get hung up that there were troubles with a brand years ago, it could easily have been resolved by now. Base your decision on current information, not obsolete rumors and innuendo. I happen to like the idea of a heater in a washer but I don't see any sense to one that only works on one or two cycles. That's why I've dismissed the new LG TL HE machine, an otherwise very interesting machine. Many front loaders are that way too. Do your research and be prepared for conflicting information too. One other thing, don't get hung up on brand names either since you need to research to see who makes them. For instance, Kenmore does not make any appliances - they're all made by manufacturers for Sears. The GE Harmony is built by LG. An Amana FL is made by Samsung. And different models are built in different locations. This can be a good time of year to buy. There'll be Black Friday specials and other sales. For instance Sears has a FL washer and dryer for somethings like $600-$700 for the pair, Menard's has a Cabrio HE TL for about $500 after rebate - just a couple that I've seen advertised. Don't forget the possibility of clearance, floor model or discontinued models either. Scratch and dent units can save a lot of money. Happy hunting....See MoreNeed opinions on two sets of washer/dryer - Trying to sell lake house
Comments (32)Your realtor definitely needs a professional photographer. The green paint itself MAY be fine if say, that bedroom isn't really that drab-ly dark. I think you said the salmon has already been repainted? Good... I wouldn't add an extra laundry in the garage, and from what I see of the garage floor, it doesn't need painting. (Then again, there may be parts I cannot see.) I love your woodwork, especially the kitchen cabs. If you leave any objects over cabinets, make them just a couple of items easily recognizable as to what they are - I spent too much time trying to figure them out while looking at that photo. Agree with others about the nipple lights, too. And that write up!...See MoreJakvis
