white or dark cabinets/vanities in kids bathrooms?
Comments (8)Personally I'd go with whatever you would prefer in a guest or master bath rather than a "kids' bath", because soon enough they will want it to feel grown up. We started our reno when our kids were 9 and 11; DS picked dark cherry and black galaxy for his vanity (we got a granite remnant.) DD didn't get a choice (she got same finishes as our bath) because she got the front part of our old master bedroom with a WIC (so her room is bigger than DS'.) Both kids picked their own paint. Long story short, you can use items like shower curtains, knobs, pictures and towels to make the space kid-like. For bigger more permanent items I'd go with something more grown up - whether white or dark cabinets should be based on your preference for the long term. FWIW here are their bathrooms:...See MoreAnybody have a brown and white bathroom? Pictures?
Comments (22)The cabinets are stained, but if you want to acheive the same look with paint, our trim paint (the window and door frame in the pics) is done in a custom mix (me with a big bucket LOL). It's a sherwin williams color called "Woodsy Brown" mixed 50/50 with Black paint of the same sheen. Decorators call the color Tint de'negre (tint of brown/black). It's a very rich chocolate color (think semi sweet hershey bar). It flows really well with true chocolate browns and tans, and I like how my white fixtures work with it as well....See MoreBathroom dilemmas! dark vs light vanity to start and flooring!
Comments (3)I worry that the white vanity may look off with all of the biscuit colored items in the room. I would go with a darker brown vanity that looks good with the undertones of both the countertop and the biscuit, and then go very light (off white) with the walls and floor to keep the room from going too dark....See MoreUpdating Bathroom: Should I paint the wood cabinet and vanity white?
Comments (8)I'm not sure white would neccessarily make it better, I think the current stain works well as a transition between wall color and tile color. (I'd prefer either much warmer tone for wall color, or something more intense..because of the tiles. But the current paint doesn't look bad, and if you love it-I think it's important for it to continue to work nicely, and I think stain does the job in connecting these two). It also provides nice contrast with the current countertop. Would be harder to get this contrast with white paint. So I'd rather restore it I guess. Having said that-the mirror looks pretty traditional, which I love, but you might not, and the lights are more contemporary-leaning..so if you want to downplay this traditional look, I think white paint will help with that. So it depends. I think it's overall a nice bathroom, and whatever direction you decide to take-with nice accessories, both will work. No, you wouldn't be able to go back to stain after you paint, not from what I know at least. I also agree with eld about longevity of stained vs painted..painted has to be babied more, in general. Even though if you paint yourself you can always touch it up....See Morepalimpsest
