What do you do with YOUR plant tags???
Comments (15)I have a fairly large garden (about 1 1/2 acres) and I have several different gardens within my garden, rock garden, perennial garden, trees, shrubs, native, wildflower and this year I've started a vegetable garden. I made drawings of each garden area and identified the plants on the drawing. I'm not artistic so they are just little circles with the names of the plants and approximate size in proportionate to the area. I've saved the labels from the original plants and put them in separate envelopes with the name of the bed on the envelope, like "side of house" "entry way" "rock garden" "shade garden", etc. I've also printed out or copied from a garden book a page that describes the plant and how to care for it and put them in a notebook. This year I purchased the 2-prong zinc markers from Lee Valley to put in the ground in front of the plant because I like to walk around my yard and see the actual plant growing and know what it's called. I started out about 3 years ago when we moved to this house with land and I was pretty new at this level of gardening. I always had a small yard and did a little gardening, but nothing like this. This method has really helped me learn the names, site requirements and care for most of the plants I have. Keeping up with the weeding, deadheading, and preventing the critters from eating everything is another matter!! :)...See MoreEnabling...Glenda...tag, you're it ThinMan
Comments (1)Lorna, you may have to shop yet again....I bought mine at Select Seeds, another heirloom source! They just sell ornamentals, no garden seeds. I bought 12 packets of seed! We have a fairly close heirloom seed company that I order from too, Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds, where I get some garden seeds but don't think I have ever bought any flower seeds from them. Wow, you did have a shopping spree! Sometimes these things are just required. We could be spending our money on such foolish things. Don't you love it when they suggest what to plant with what....that always requires another purchase...they are thinking ahead. Select Seeds does that........ I have never raised sweet woodruff and am looking for things to put with the iris. Shame on you....See MoreQuestion about using pencil to mark metal plant tags
Comments (12)Hi, Here is the web address for Gardener's Supply Company which just has thousands of helpful, pretty and different gardening supplies. I have been using their plant markers and their marking pen for about a year now. I can't tell you how long the writing will last yet, but so far it is holding up since last spring and the writing is as black as it was when I wrote the label. It says you can remove the ink with fine steel wool. Donna http://www.gardeners.com/ (type in the search box Plant Markers)...See MoreTrying out new posts for aluminum I.D. tags
Comments (3)I saw those, DonR, but didn't want stakes with the little "drip" going down. I wanted a very nice clean look. I love how anodized aluminum looks and keeps its looks. Sure, I wish mine were a bit longer, but if I stick them into the soil about 2", they are anchored pretty well and still stick up enough to identify their plant....See Morelindalana 5b Chicago
