Glenda, I'm placing the blame on you, because I'd rather not shoulder the responsibility. (wicked grin) I fell off the wagon last night, after seeing your post about a sale at Heirloom Seeds! I ordered six packets of seeds, then I continued to search other heirloom sites. I ordered two elderberry trees!!

Today I drove to Albuquerque to see about having my camera repaired. Well, the camera repair shop is located in the general vicinity of High Country Gardens... I reasoned that they had a super good sale last fall, so I'd better go over there and see what was going on.

However, I had just purchased a camera, because the cost of repair for my old Olympus was equal to the value of my camera. I had spent about $55 on plants last night via Internet orders. I was feeling guilty. I actually walked out of HCG with only one bag of soil amendment--no plants! Then I went to an orthopedic shoe store and purchased three pairs of shoes!! (Navidad, my middle-aged Samoyed decided to chew up a shoe the other night whilst I was asleep. He hasn't done anything like this before. Why did he pick the most expenisve pair of shoes I owned?!)

I do tend to go on a shopping spree at this time of year, each year, because my birthday is in the fall. I'm only trying to blame the PLANT purchases on you, ;-) girlfriend! So, how many packets of seeds did you purchase from Heirloom Seeds?! I bought Sweet Woodruff, which I haven't seen or tried before. The Web site suggested planting these blue-flowered plants with iris. I will plant the woodruff with the iris Brenda sent me from her garden.

ThinMan, they had Psyche White Cosmos seeds on sale, a multi-colored version of the same, plus a whole bunch of other types of cosmos. I bought a package of white. They call it Psyche, but I distinctly remember my previous packet of seeds being labelled as Psycho White. Tag, TM, I'm enabling you...pass it on...

Lorna, you may have to shop yet again....I bought mine at Select Seeds, another heirloom source! They just sell ornamentals, no garden seeds. I bought 12 packets of seed!
We have a fairly close heirloom seed company that I order from too, Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds, where I get some garden seeds but don't think I have ever bought any flower seeds from them.

Wow, you did have a shopping spree! Sometimes these things are just required. We could be spending our money on such foolish things.

Don't you love it when they suggest what to plant with what....that always requires another purchase...they are thinking ahead. Select Seeds does that........

I have never raised sweet woodruff and am looking for things to put with the iris. Shame on you.

lol, Annette. We had the head of the National Capital Commission here put forward the idea of creating a ceremonial way, paved in red thank you very much, from the Drill Hall to Parliament Hill. This the route for the trooping of the Guard. Let's just say that due to climate, she was nixed!! I too had a pipe on an outside wall freeze in an apartment many years ago - very frustrating, but since it was the kitchen tap it was caught before it broke. Plumber told me after it thawed to let water drip though it when it got real cold. Never froze again. TM, I think Cyn deserves stars!! Nancy.

Here is what one type looks like. Yes, they are used for cutting plastic foam, Nancy and Annette. for each of you. Annette - Yes! I have sawed through styrofoam. I just finished making a walk-in cooler in my basement and I had to cut a lot of pieces of foam. First I tried heating a big knife with a torch and using that. It worked well, but it was hard to get a straight line and the burning foam would stink when I was reheating the knife, which was often. I switched to a saw and got the mess. A hot wire cutter would have helped, but you can only cut relatively thin widths with one. Cynthia, I liked your answer too, and there definitely are insulated wire cutters, but I've never heard them called hot wire cutters. I used a pair to cut hot wires once when I didn't realize they were hot. There were sparks! Thanks, ladies, for playing trivia with me this weekend. TM

Thanks, Edna, Annette, and Schoolhouse. We have had the two boys since Sunday, and I haven't had a lot of time to post anything since I put the pics on. Their mom and dad will be home today, so life will be back to normal for us. Less rich, but normal. Glenda, thank you, too. The plum and pear trees came with the property and are all that's left of a farm that was here many years ago. We have two different kinds of pears, but you won't be surprised when I tell you that we don't know what they are. One is earlier and the pears are good if you catch them at just the right time. There used to be a second plum tree here and we got some plums until it got so decrepit I had to take it down. The one left is now pretty but fruitless. GGG - I can't take a smidgen of credit for growing any of the fruit. The only thing I do is prune the trees every couple of years and they do the rest. Because I don't spray, a lot of the apples are not usable, but I can usually find plenty to make batches of fall applesauce. Thank you for thinking the pics are gorgeous!
