my first named daylily bloom ........way too early this year

Here is Lava Flow blooming June 2 .......way too early for here . I don't log these things ( too many weeds to pull ) but I don't remember it blooming much before the 3rd or last week of June . Of course with the 40 degree celcius (with the humidex) days we have had over the last 2 weeks I am sure the daylilies think we are well into summer . Alliums lasted maybe a week , Lilacs not even that long , they came out got burnt and that was it . It really has been a horrible spring here.

But on the bright side Lava Flow looks pretty good for a ffo this season . This has got to be the tallest I have ever seen it too. Still too short for my liking so probably will move it this season over into the bed by the pig pen ( short daylilies relegated to this bed ) . Still waiting on Wild Horses , It has had a scape for over 3 weeks now , still hasn't bloomed . Waiting for rain it may never see I guess

Orange is one of my favorite colors - so Yea! for you on Lava Flow. We've already been up to 108 on the heat index and some of the newly planted daylilies, with roots not yet formed, are struggling to survive. Gardening is such fun in the tropics........Maryl

Beautiful. We skipped spring and went straight to summer too. Hard on the spring beauties. Gardening can surely brek your heart.

Jean, I am finding more and more scapes each time I look. Val, I like the late season bloomers better than the very earlies but it is nice to same some of each. Cindy, thanks. I really like those rose planters and the roses in them. Nancy, I get inspired by what I see in other peoples gardens myself. There always seems to be something to add to the garden. These clematis have been here afew years now so are really starting to show off.

Another bloom on SARATOGA SPRINGTIME yesterday. I din't even bother to take a picture of it as it was down on the ground on the worlds shortest scape, just like the other shot. I also had a bloom on COUNT IT ALL JOY which is one of the 2009 intros of Karol Emmerich. Its one of these sort of counts scapes as the scape was there but much smaller of course when it arrived. That one I did take a picture of but my pictures from yesterday are not downloaded yet.

Thanks! She is registered as an extra early opener, and that she is. I found two others that have scapes as well, a new one this year I got from a Southern grower called 'Just A Tease' and one I got last year called 'Laughing Clown', registered as early. I have 'Ornamental Focus', which is also an extra early bloomer, but have yet to see scapes on that one. Hopefully this year it'll pop some out. I'm excited that daylily season is starting and hopeful to see blooms on the ones I got last year that didn't bloom. And until the daylilies get into full swing, I have my other flowers to keep me happy. Karen

Your new blooms are gorgeous! Thanks for sharing back! I don't cut scapes off new plants & ALL of them have been just fine, coming back up with renewed vigour and usually more fans the next Spring. I do not ask the new ones to make seed pods, though, so I do dead head them after I've oohed and aahed over my new flowers *grin* marea

I agree. After seeing all the scapes up in my garden I think it is an early season.

Lava Flow looks great. Seems like it is the first one to bloom for a lot of folks. Hope you get some rain and cooler temperatures soon.

Nice! We had a hot Feb., cold March/1st half of April, then hot 2nd half of April and May, now cooling down for June. Crazy! Our weather man is amazing. When we were having a hot Feb. he predicted a cool down, then he predicted a warm up and then this coming cool down. He really watches patterns, etc. And he doesn't buy into the climate change garbage at all. He looks at historical patterns and sees we've been here before over and over. We are so fortunate to have such a great guy! It helps gardeners and farmers to have a helpful & practical person rather than a political one.
