Struggling over sofa selection for small space for months
Comments (55)smalloldhouse - thank you. That is very helpful. I am leaning towards the two sofas facing each other, simply because it provides more comfortable seating for a greater number of people. Your experience is very helpful. The TV angle is not ideal, but tv viewers have the basement tv and sectional. As for the tufting, I totally agree. I would order it without any tufting. As for perpendicular sofas - the asymmetry of having neither sofa centered on it's wall really bothered me. The window treatment to conceal the asymmetry with the windows is a good idea, but I prefer no window panels for this space. If I order the two two-seat sofas, I can try out the perpendicular arrangement to see what it's like in real life. I'm also not thrilled about not sitting in the sofa prior to purchase....See MoreStruggling! furniture placement, leather sofa, corner fireplace
Comments (26)I have a corner fireplace, and the key to successful furniture placement turned out to be turning the sofa on the diagonal, facing directly toward the fireplace, and placing two chairs against the wall to either side of the fireplace. An area rug turned diagonally to the room (parallel to sofa and hearth) pulls it all together. This might work for you. It can be arranged and rearranged in ten minutes. I recommend trying it for a week or two before deciding whether or not it works for your household. A slight variation is to turn the side chairs so their backs are not against the wall behind them, and face directly toward one another, yes with the chair corner to the wall. Of my two chairs, I have one placed each way, and no one seems to notice. If one of the easy chairs is placed diagonally to its wall, it is possible to tuck the television table behind it. The downside of this arrangement: for tv watching, one of you gets the other easy chair, and one of you gets to stretch out on the sofa at full length. (It goes without saying that the kids get the floor). Pattern-with-pattern comes in and out of fashion; one moment it is declared the Next New Thing, and another moment declared an egregious crime. I'd say go with your heart. You want to smile when you come into the room. Congratulations on your new house!...See MoreCouches with short wait times? struggling...
Comments (8)Always help to post your location if looking for something in stock. There are no sofas you can get from a maker in 2 weeks time from a warehouse, they don't move that fast. Washington DC area is my store location, I happen to have two of these Taylor Kings "Glanmar" sofas in stock in Notionality fabric, they are exact matching down to the pillows and made at the same time.. If you are within 5 hours of the store, we can deliver immediately. $ 5K for both before shipping / delivery. USA made. Delivery charge $ 120 per hour outbound (NYC would be $ 600, for example)....See MoreRight-sized & struggling with large sentimental art and other photos
Comments (7)Do you need a mirror by the front door? I haven't had a mirror by the entryways in our last two houses and have not missed. I would rather see color and art. For me, art has always been the last thing I do after a move. Even if that meant my collection sat it laundry baskets and crates for a few months. Also, it allowed me to feel the new place first. I would rather get it right the first time Since our last move, I still have numerous large and two crates of smaller art pieces in my cloffice I do not want to part with. I added a few more to walls after living here ten months, as the empty spaces started to bother me. I also hang art inside walk-in closets and pantries when there is space. Another line of thinking is favorite pieces do not necessarily need to be in public spaces. I agree with everything in @Aphaea's comment. Especially that less is sometimes more. More is more can only work in the right spaces....See MoreUser
