carpet pad stuck on floor
Comments (12)Last year, we went through the same thing, only for us, the carpet and padding had been down well in excess of 30+ years (1970's avocado green carpet from previous owners). Using solvents can mess up the current finish on the floor. Using oil based anything will soak into the hardwood anywhere that the finish isn't still sealed, which can make for significant problems. We used a paint scraper that was nearly parallel with the floor and went along slowly and carefully. We wound up getting almost everything up easily without scratching or marring the floor in any way. There were a few stubborn spots where I used a rag lightly soaked with water (mostly wrong out) and had it sit on the stuck spot for a few minutes and then scraped again. Repeated as necessary....See MoreStaircase stuck in the 80s
Comments (19)My husband and I are in the middle of a DIY remodeling job. I still have to paint and put up moulding in the stairwell. I just finished the staircase this last weekend. The stair treads were stripped, stained, and coated with polyurethane. The risers and spindles were painted with semi gloss paint, and the newel posts and banister were gel stained and wiped with polyurethane. It was a huge job, but saved us $$$ doing it ourselves. Comments (7)Thank you so much for posting! I really appreciate your boost! That is the plan for the newel as well. :) I like what you did a lot! The handrail - did it go okay from the catalog? It looks really well done! Not sure if you remember this part but there are just a few profiles and I am just checking that you got one of those or had that also custom? Because the fits over caps beautifully is starting to be delicate to me. You have super beautiful caps all on beautiful newels I see!!...See Moreraee_gw zone 5b-6a Ohio
