1st Yr. for Russian Sage (Salvia Rusa) - Looking Skimpy
Comments (10)Hi Brit, When I want to move a plant, but am afraid of it getting scorched in the hot sun, I create a temporary sun shade for it. Sometimes I've created mini burlap tents/tarps attached to stakes or I've even simply propped a shovel up infront of the plant to protect it from the harshest rays of the sun. Someday I'll get smart and remember to save those old broken umbrellas! ;) I keep the shade up for a week or two. But, my best advice for moving plants in hot sunny times is to cut back as much foliage as possible, especially with Russian Sage. That way the plant can concentrate on restoring/repairing it's root system until it's adequate enough to support the foliage and foliage growth. Think of it as balancing the photosynthesis process between water uptake ability and sun processing. I hope this helps!...See MoreLate blooming azalea?
Comments (26)Azaleas need an acidic soil. You didn't mention anything in your mix to make the soil acidic. Usually people add sphagnum peat, peat humus, oak leaves, or some other acidic material to make the soil acidic. To lower pH (make morer acidic) you can always use powdered sulfur. You use the term "mound". Never plant an azalea deeper than it was originally. Usually plant it a little higher than it was before. I hope you mean you are using a raised bed which will help improve drainage. Surrounding the planted plant with sand, etc., will just form a dam which will make drainage much worse. Then after planting, mulch with a material such as pine bark to help keep the soil cool in the summer, help protect the shallow roots from weeds, help conserve moisture, and help protect from temperature changes in the winter. Comments (35)Thanks Tigerdunes. I stopped by the distributor of Heil today and he said this was a great combo as far as efficiency and said he would not recommend a higer SEER or 2 stage compressor, even from Heil as you would never recoup the costs. Also said to get the VS air handler as this combo will qualify for the $300 energy rebate due to the good efficiency ratings. Surprising but since the Trance XL15i does not get 13 EER it does not qualify for the $300 so that makes my difference $2100. At this point the Heil is the clear winner. not sure why what you have says discontinued but the dealers sells these all day long and I assume he would have told me this since I know them. Thanks for your input. We are actually going to add 3 registers in the lower level to help with heating this space. We have1 return that is in between both floors. Another contrator came out today and said I needed 38000 for cooling and 48000 for heating. In between a 3.5 and 4 ton which is consistent with the others. We have a lot of glass, face south, 7 skylights and avg ceiling height of 12'. He thinks 3.5 in/out was best solution especially since I told him I shut off most of the lower level registers in the summer as it is always cooler. Comments (26)If bm had it her way she wouldn't see the children at all... We "make" her to take her children. The last 5 months have "been rough" for her but prior to that she was making over $10,000 a month. She quit that job to make $4000 a month so she wouldn't have to pay as much child support. We are happy its only two separate days a week. I think it would be worse on the kids if it were 2 days in a row. She tells the kids everything that happens in court that benefits her the judge said... blah blah blah. She was warned in Nov. If the children come home saying anything else about "the judge said" I will personally call child services and tell them exactly what she says and let them sort it out(verbal and emotional abuse). She said I'll call on you "go right ahead we have nothing to worry about". We took the high road for a bit but they would come home saying why does mommy have to pay you to be our daddy? You only have us 2 days a week more than mommy! He would let them beat him up with words. In a fit I rattled off... And who pays for everything? Who pays for your extras? When you get sick at school who picks you up and where do you go? when you have to go to the drs who brings you? When you don't have school whose house are you at? When mommy takes as much responsiblity for you as daddy does then she won't have to pay. They have said things like .... cawfe you must be happy you don't have to work because mommy pays you to stay home!! Well then tell mommy I want a raise!!.. I am here because daddy needs me to stay home and care for you, no one pays me!! It has taken me a lot of patience to get to a point where what she says doesn't bother me I laugh it off. If I get angry at what she says and show her she wins. its one thing for the kids to come and say no clean dishes, but for her to confirm it. I couldn't imagine calling my ex and telling him hey the kid didn't eat I didn't have any clean dishes (I wish I were making that up) I/We use our old stand by to respond to the kids about things their mom say to them about us. Its not your fault she's just mad at herself and takes it out on you. Its not right or fair but we can't change how mommy feels and until mommy can get over being angry she is going to say and do mean things. So the next time They go to moms packing another care package and dish soap :) He does speak to the therapist now. I write the stuff down and he will call the therapist and talk to her....See MoreDalton the Bengal (Zone 6)
