Online grocery shopping?
Comments (27)Yes Lucillle that is a consideration. That's a 20 mile round trip and probably a special trip at that so you need to factor in driving expense too. A friend of mine used one of the high-end stores in the area to deliver her groceries. They'd put things away, in refrigerator, freezer and cupboards so there was no carrying at all. She loved it. She hated going to the store at all so it was worth it to her. But they stopped delivering to her area. She was one unhappy gal when that happened! There was also a company called Simon Delivers who delivered things in the area. I thought about using them but never did. They were bought out by Coborn's and they're a very good store so I wouldn't hesitate to use them if the need should arise but at this point I still prefer to pick out my own stuff....See MoreGrocery shopping and other aspects of the coronavirus life
Comments (135)Today I went to Trader Joe's - haven't been there since very early coronavirus days. Limited to 30 people inside but there was only one person in line when I arrived. I can see why the limit as even with that you had to make a considerable effort to stay six feet away from people which everyone was trying to do. This is the first time I've been grocery shopping where every person I saw, except one, was wearing a mask. I think it may be the TJ clientele and/or the size of the store because when I went to Target across the street it wasn't like that - just a few masks. One woman and her child without masks walked right next to me in spite of a large, wide open aisle that would have allowed her to keep her distance. She seemed oblivious to the whole idea. I didn't go out quite as early today but I still found everything I was looking for including a package of disinfecting wipes and a bottle of hand sanitizer - limit one of each at Target. I noticed they had some different brands of disinfectant spray - brands I've never seen before. May be that some company that used to make something else is now making this stuff....See MoreExtra groceries
Comments (19)They all seem to do this service a bit different. In-house shoppers for curbside. Instacart for delivery?. I rarely have a perfect delivery. Something extra, something missing. Double avocados this morning....that means I now have about 30, 😳. Neighbors will be happy. A dozen eggs were smashed flat, all broken. (carton in a bag thankfully). Other dozen is fine. I just did AmazonPrime WholeFoods for the first time. Possibly the most efficient. Clearly from a warehouse distribution nearby. Not shopped at one of their groceries. Less handling and very fresh. The bags are coded, One of 5, two of 5, etc. Arrived in an Amazon van within a few hours from ordering. No wonky plastic bags that roll around in someones car/trunk to get mixed up. After a zombie Apocalypses experience yesterday getting my first vaccine, I have no interest in shopping in person anytime soon. Everyone masked and properly, most double masked, and some with face shields. Thankfully the nurse was efficient and zippy. Edited to add...this is a Walgreens I've never been to. I was mistaken the location but they had appointments. People were walking around in a slow state of wonder. Staring at product. Way more people in the pharmacy than necessary. All my deliveries are from distribution warehouses, not grocery stores. Except for my one Costco Instacart. He was excellent and in contact by text. That was a TP need. (I heard we might have another shortage)....See MoreHow much to tip for Door Dash delivery of groceries?
Comments (9)Some grocery stores suggest 3 tips, small medium and large, and I pick each time depending on circumstance or make up my own amount- the weather, the groceries (if I buy heavy items like cat litter, etc.) but also on service. Although I describe exactly where my apartment is located there have been a few times when it was delivered to the wrong apartment across the street. and I tipped the neighborhood kids to bring my groceries over (the lady who lives there gets wrong deliveries all the time, her apartment number is the same as the street number and the delivery people get them confused)...See Morelucillle
