What would you do with this table?
Comments (18)This table has simply been sitting beneath the living room window for months, until I finally came up with an idea. I'm terrible about picking up sample cards at the hardware store. Last week in the kitchen section I found sample cards printed with different types of countertops -- green marble, tan sandstone, deep green sandstone, etc. I picked up a bunch because -- I'm still 6 years old at heart, what can I say! I didn't have any plans for them, just liked the way they looked. Happened to look at the table again and what struck by the fact that it looks a little Moorish, like the inlaid mosaic tables of the Middle East. And suddenly the light bulb went off! It didn't take long to formulate a pattern, and I spent a night or two cutting each piece out with a razor blade. Here's a snap of the first 3 medallions laid out, along with some of the sample cards and some of the extra "tiles". I have all the pieces for the table top cut out. My plan is to paint the wood with a dark chocolate/black stain, and I need to figure out how to handle the panels on the side, but -- what do you think about it so far?...See MoreWhat would you do with this table? Comments (10)Reno... I'm half tempted to send it to you because I know you would do something awesome with it!!! The effect you describe is what came to me after reading the first few posts here. Les... I had also thought about the distressed red idea. Good points are made here, though, about whether I should keep it at all. I guess somewhere I am hopeful that I can either make this house into one that I love or will move to another house in which this table will fit. I hate to give up the nicer things I have collected, but sometimes I suppose that makes sense. Case in point... the best furniture I own happens to be my Ethan Allen dining table and chairs. I love them. However, I have had to convert my little-used dining room into my office (pictured above) and with three little kids I hesitate to use the table in my kitchen, even though it would fit. So, for now it is kind of tucked into a corner of my living room and used as extra work space for DH and me. You can see it in this pic... My struggle is because I lived in my previous home for 5 years and spent the entire time making into exactly the home I wanted and loved. All furniture and accessories were purchased for that place. I finally had it exactly how I wanted it and we moved. Now, nothing seems to fit right. I'm "making do" with my things and waiting for a time when they will work again. Unfortunately, they are going out of style as I wait. I suppose I should be thankful that I ever had the home I wanted, be glad for my nice things, and quit whining, eh? Comments (10)What an interesting idea, turquoise. I think it will work. It opens up other possibilities I could also do sage green....See MoreRedesigning a fireplace. Do you think this would look ok?
Comments (12)Not only is the Victorian style fireplace not appropriate for your decor, it is way too small to put a TV over. Although there is a lot of discussion about placing TVs over fireplaces, a lot of people do it. What is beneath the TV needs to stay in proportion. The current mantel is too tall for a TV, but it is not too narrow. Looking at the way the mantel is constructed, you could actually shorten it about 6" with a little ingenuity. Add a splash of silver with a custom fireplace screen, throw in some andirons and change out that generic traditional style ceiling fan to tie it all together: Mockup provided by: Hansen Wholesale Fireplace Design Service...See MoreK R
