Comments (4)So you want a free-standing vanity (ordered from stock) set between the window wall and a newly added built-in linen closet bumped out from the chimney soffit wall? I don't see why not. If there is space to slide a cabinet in, then isn't there enough space to build one in? You may end up with closer to only 12" of usuable shelf space, because of frame and drywall- but buying a freestanding cabinet will yield even less overall storage...and two furniture pieces standing tight in the alcove is not your ideal- regardless of the pieces matching. A cabinet shop could build a custom vanity with an attached (or seperate) linen closet, that would be "ok" and expensive - but your idea is the best use of the space and visually cleaner, and....VERY do-able. Really. If your contractor and crew can't build the linen cabinet frame and door(s) then a cabinet shop can build and deliver the rough cabinet box and doors- for your contractor to secure to studs, sheetrock in, and trim out. I may not understand the issue fully but this seems similar to a closet we had worked-in to replace an open narrow niche- sorry, no photos. I hope you get what you need without settling unnecessarily. hth ps...looking at your floorplan does not tell the whole story, I know....but have you considered placing the linen cabinet on the other end of the vanity, by the window? Having the vanity flanked by the linen cabinet and chimney to each side might feel more balanced and place attention on the vanity as a focal point....See MoreOK - Almost there. What do you think?
Comments (7)We are also picking appliances now and made some similar choices. We will get the GE OTR advantium 120 MW, the Samsung counter depth french door fridge, and I have ordered the Electrolux induction range. We have settled on a Kitchenaid DW, one of the ones with the 3rd cutlery rack, but not sure which one. I LOVE the look of the Electrolux slide-in ranges, and I really want induction. Our pans are over 20 years old, so they are pretty much due for replacement anyway. I agree with the trim on the Electrolux, though. I haven't heard this for sure, but it certainly looks like crumbs will collect and get stuck there. I figure that it will be SO much easier to clean the induction top that I am willing to fight with the crumbs (of course I am replacing an old coil electric stove!). I think any of those slide-in choices are fine. I also considered the Kenmore and GE induction ranges, and while I would have been happy with any of them, I was really excited when the Electrolux induction was announced. I'm hoping that it doesn't have lots of bugs (being so new), but it probably will... It might just be me, but I think the Kenmore's have this weird greenish translucent looking film on the glass door front. It would really bug me as our range is very visible in our kitchen. I know the Kenmore's are made by Electrolux, but this seems to be only on the Kenmore doors. You might see what I mean if you can see the Kenmore next to another brand at a store, especially from a bit of a distance (say 10 feet). But any of them are great choices that I'm sure you will be thrilled with. Good luck!...See MoreDo you think mullions look ok in a 13 inch stacked cabinet?
Comments (19)I have an 18 inch cabinet stacked over a 33 inch with 5 inch crown. Our ceilings are just shy of 9 feet. Here is a photo of the boxes installed. Hopefully the doors will be going in tomorrow. I am a bit OCD on having things match up, so I personally wouldn't choose to have muntins in a single cabinet. Maybe consider doing the entire 36 inch cabinet in glass? I am too messy to do that, but in other's kitchens when used as a focal point it can look nice to break up the wall of wood. I tend to agree with the previous posters that a 13 inch may be too small. Once you add the door frames, the amount of glass showing will be tiny....See MoreIf you could redesign this accent table, what would you do?
Comments (17)So first off, this isn't a table. And then things need to make sense. To me it makes no sense to hang a mirror over a piece of furniture unless it will be used to check your look on the way out. So does this area lead to the back yard only (where you don't need to see what you look like there) or does this lead to a garage that you use to come and go (?) I would in some way update the color of that furniture piece ... whether you stain it an espresso or you paint it a flat black. Then I would hang one large art piece over it. I would remove all of the little items you have all around it and decorate with a few larger pieces that somehow correspond to how that piece and that space will be used. Do you need a lamp in that area ... again do you come home at night through that space from a garage entry? Do you need a tray for keys if this door leads to the garage? No personal framed photos. Why would you be going to that space to pick out a magazine to read? What could you possible put in a small glass jar reaching down that far? You get the idea. Think in those terms....See More
